I was shocked to see this on Facebook. The Evan is someone whom I am not exactly friends with, but sort of am. We don't agree on...anything, really, but we can talk and argue. Talk and argue without either of us getting angry or taking it personally.
I didn't know what to think of this, though. It is the sort of thoughtless, insecure, paranoid, ' ( Read more... )

His position makes no sense. He doesn't seem to grasp that, to the extent that Christians are being marginalized or persecuted or whatever, that's mostly happening because of how badly they (or, if not them as a group, then prominent supposed representatives acting from "Christian" motives) have often treated others and the "persecutors" generalizing (not always appropriately) from that (and that's to say nothing of how much Christians love feeling persecuted); but then, if he's a Christian, I'd hardly expect him to grasp that--it's likely all he can do to wipe himself properly. As to the thought and action thing, he needs to have another look at Matthew 5: 21-28. That was an underlying point through a whole lot of what Jesus (supposedly) said: external things (one's material circumstances and station in life, and even one's actions) are less important than internal things (states of mind and intention, and "spiritual" things ( ... )

Rereading this, something just jumped out at me that I hadn't noticed before. He says he has a book about getting rid of homosexuality with God's love. Wait. Why does he have such a book? Oh my... The poor closet case.

Well, he might be a closet case, or he might simply be looking for ammunition in arguments.

If you believe in that crap. It's okay not to, though.

If you want to be persecuted and shunned for real, try announcing you're an atheist next time you're in a gathering of friends. I've lost a lot of friends - and I think my son has too - because I'm an outspoken atheist. I doubt many Xians can claim the same, nor is it likely to happen. On the contrary, a Xian theocracy is much more likely.

On a somewhat related note - Christians will never be persecuted in America, they run the country. They're running the government. There is no fear of them being persecuted, they're too busy doing the persecuting.

As to the rest of it... well, I don't even get why you'd be talking with someone like this, given his views, but *shrug* that's your lookout.

(Prolly obvious I'm not xtian and totally pro freedom of sexuality)

Last but not least: *hugs* Be who you are, love what you love, there's nothing wrong with you.

Your comment lead to me doing some rereading. And...something in his comments jumped out at me that I hadn't noticed before... "I have a great book about homosexuality and Christianity that focuses on the love of Jesus, not condemnation."

Wait. Wait a minute. Why would he have a book like that? Oh god... I never would have guessed...
