[Oh.

It's been a year since she came here. Well not a complete year, given she left for a few days in January, but pretty much her entire time has been condensed into living in this one village where almost nothing interesting happens unless it is forced upon everyone through experiment. I have never forgotten any of my friends. I just know they wouldn't want me to be sad all the time missing them.

Alright, I know you aren't as dumb as you act. Even you must realize that when people leave they forget Luceti. Like a fading memory that only stays for a few seconds and then is abandoned. They wouldn't even remember you when they go back, so why bother with remembering them?

Because they are my friends. There doesn't need to be more of a reason than that. Even if they return here and have forgotten me, that doesn't change the good times I remember. It doesn't really change who they are. We'll just have to start over again.

And who knows, maybe back home they will remember me someday and smile.

How cute. Your speech sounds catered to a group of seven year olds who probably think people are better off dying because they go to a better place. People like you are the biggest of mysteries for me.

[A light snort as she flicks her hair boredly.]

Starting over huh? That sounds rather cold. Like people here just have reset buttons on the back of their necks that you can press and return them to their original state.

I didn't mean it like that. If I had a choice I'd like to have them remember me, but even if they forget me, I'm not going to give up on them.

Do you want to remember absolutely everything then? Good and bad? There must be things even you want to forget.

[At least that's how most people are. Human, demon, whatever. Everyone has bad things they wish would vanish.]

It's true there are things I'd rather no one remember. Everyone has moments like that, but if it meant tampering with their memory to have them forget it, the no, I wouldn't want them to forget. I don't think that it is right of the Malnosso to tamper with our memories like they do, good or bad they are ours. I wouldn't want to forget the good times and as bad as it may be to remember some of the bad tines, I've learned from them. I would not have to learn that lesson the hard way again.

It is their right only because they see us as lab mice. A scientist never thinks twice about how the mouse feels when they're being forced to run around an endless maze, looking for a way to escape. They just keep trying to tamper with it's behavior. That is the nature of our captors.

A fair answer. I guess my assumption on you was correct.

[Vash doesn't even want to touch that lab mouse analogy, he feels sorry for this poor hyprotictical mouse already!]

Oh, it is?

Yeah. You should be careful. If you aren't people might start to realize you're a being capable of intelligence.

Oh! Well, I wouldn't want them to treat me like an idiot! That doesn't sound very nice! [Lalala, acting like he doesn't understand what you mean.]

Too late. If you act like one they'll think you are.

Are you saying I act like an idiot? That's not a very nice thing to say! [This pout is not a very serious one at all.]

Oh, well I'm not a very nice person I guess!

Besides, it's true.

[Vash sighs and gives a confused shrug] Acting just sounds like a lot of work to me.

Not to a seasoned actor. Though that assumes that you are acting.
