Doesn't hate crime law also take groups and just re-identify them by their race or sexual orientation or whatever the case maybe?

Not so much re-identify, but it allows for statistical analysis to be taken based on the categories presented.

Which honestly, is some ways is a good thing. Being able to look at crime stats and cross reference based on race, gender, sexual orientation can help law enforcement see trends and could force greater awareness of problems based on those trends.

The stats portion I dont actually see a problem with.

As defense and homeland security and law enforcement keep getting more entwined and entangled, it seems par for the course.

Eventually all that stuff is gonna have to get unweaved though.

Sorry, I kinda gotta blame parts of the poorly written Patriot act for bringing back this problem...its just a matter of time before we get another Hoover tbh.

It's actually par for the course and common regardless of which party is on top. Any number of things get woven into larger bills so that they have to pass if the larger bill wants to pass.
