Kyouya Ootori / Reserved / II kakkoii_kyou November 25 2010, 02:41:47 UTC
[Personality]Kyouya considers himself an egoist. Essentially, that means someone who is basically in it for themselves, focusing on their own self-interest, letting their own self-importance and needs justify everything they do. He says as much to Haruhi. But like most ruses among the Hosts, she sees right through it. While he may put a lot of effort into making the world think he is only motivated by his own "merits" and things of usefulness and worth to him, it's obvious that there is more to Kyouya than his own egoism/egotism. He finds this to be an "interesting notion," but at the time, he neither confirms nor denies it. If anything, he seems amused ( ... )

Haruhi can see past his veneer, as much as Kyouya prides himself on being able to do the same with others. He claimed that he could read other people, without allowing them to see inside him. And yet Haruhi and Tamaki both have this power, though Kyouya is often calling their lord an idiot, sometimes fondly, more often in agitation, even punching a couch and scaring little children when he thought of the blond and his desire to kill him ( ... )

The Host Club utilizes everyone's unique "trait". Kyouya has a gift for attributing these as much as Tamaki (and Renge, without her exaggerations), pointing out to Haruhi where each of the Host's strengths lie. His own, as I said, lies in his composure, his cool demeanor under pressure. It helps when your family is backed by a huge private police and you live a relatively cushy life, secure in your own intelligence and achievements. But he is unhappy about his own place within his family, recognizing that as hard as he might try to do his best, there is still a futility to his position as third son, one he can't hope to surpass. But it is Tamaki that tells him not to give up. Ultimately, he does one better. Not only does he manage to buy his father's company, he turns the management of it back over to him, letting the older man know it's not even what he wants. He's found something that makes him happier, something of greater merit, namely his part in the Host Club. They are his substitute for the things ideal families provide, ( ... )

[Other important stuff]

Kyouya thinks a certain amount of skin-exposure is acceptable (and GOOD for business!)

He is the "shadow King" of the Host Club, and unwittingly Haruhi's "mom", whenever Tamaki ("Dad") refers to him as such. You'd think he'd balk at the title, but no, he just plays right along.

When asked what he writes in his notebook, Kyouya says everything. Personally, I think he doodles, likely stick-figures of Tamaki being ridiculous.

Kyouya writes calligraphy with style.

Kyouya makes a hot vampire.

Kyouya also looks hot in a kimono.

Kyouya is hot, period. Moving on...
