pennies = power?

Bare with me, because this is either the worst or best idea I've had this week. It definitely gave me giggles when I thought of it. Sadly, it was not quite mad scientist cackling. I'm saving that for something bigger.

US penny = Copper clad zinc ingot (97.5% Zn, 2.5% Cu).

When I was in high school, we removed the zinc from the center of the penny by lightly filing wedges on each side three and using a similar method to dissolve the zinc into zinc oxide, leaving only the copper foil. Unfortunately, that was 10 years ago, and I remember there was 2 chemicals used to induce a reaction, I just can't remember which ones.
