When my computer was about to die I wrote myself an email with all my files on them, along with a list of my fav websites. THen when I got my new computer I just downloaded them from my email.

Yes, yes you do, and the sooner the better.

I don't know if the email solution will work for you (some of the webmail sites don't have much storage, and if it is stored on your own machine like mine used to be that may not be very helpful!), but if you can't get it onto disk, then you could also post it to your lj (and you can lock those entries so only you can see them), OR, zip/rar up your data, probably with a password, and upload it to one of the file-sharing sites (megaupload may be best, since it doesn't seem to expire?), and then email yourself the file location (or put that on your lj)...

Tiger has been saying for all 20+ years now that I've known him, "He who laughs last had backups," and it is so, so very true...

This whole thing would be eaiser too if I knew more about computers! XD

I like the megaupload idea though, that could handle my pictures file and word doc. file! Granted that I get some sort of unzipper on my new computer.

Ah, I wish I could just snap my fingers and have everything transfer by magic!
