To Gild Refined Gold

Dec 26, 2004 15:11

To gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
To throw perfume on the violet,
To smooth the ice, or add another hue
Unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
To seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish,
Is wasteful and ridiculous to excess.

not totally sure about even what it's talking about (the whole picture, obviously the individual phrases make sense) but the works flow together very beautifully...i love your posted poems

the poem is saying how things are beautiful as they are and adding to them is absurd and unnecessary
