Fantastic Four

I watched "Fantastic Four" last weekend.

-It was fairly easy to figure out, without seeing the trailer, that the storm would transform Victor, Johnny, Susan, Ben, and Reedf into their respective alter-egos, given that the

-There only seemed to be two major action scenes in the film; the bridge scene, and the(admittedly quite long) struggle against Dr. Doom(which consisted of Mr. Fantastic fighting Dr. Doom unsuccessfully, The Human Torch luring the missile to its destruction, Invisible Woman fighting Doom in his office, The Thing tackling Doom to the streets, and the final confrontation).

-The love relationship between Invisble Woman and Mr. Fantastic was somewhat cliched in its progressing from Invisble Woman almost marrying Dr. Doom(I liked Reed interrupting just as Victor was about to ask Susan to marry him, though, as his "four words" were different than those that Victor was about to say), after breaking up with Mr. Fantastic, to getting engaged at the end of the film.

-The characters' reactions to their powers were interesting; Dr. Doom views the accident on board the space station(and resulting failure of the experiment and his investment) as a great disaster, yet ironically uses his powers to seek his revenge against the board of directors and the Fantastic Four, the Human Torch uses his powers to gain fame, The Thing sees his powers as isolating him(his wife leaves him after the bridge scene), Invisible Woman sees her powers as a problem, but uses them as a solution(she disrobes and turns invisble to escape her fans), and Mr. Fantastic not only has the idea of replicating the storm, but also thinks more rationally than most of the others(with the possible exception of Invisible Woman).

-I don't know what the exact purpose of a bed that continuously updates one's weight is(except maybe if the patient is bedridden), but it showed the Thing's dramatic weight gain(so much so that the bed's weighing system breaks).

-I'm not sure how the Human Torch summons the flames around his body, or how they enable him to fly(maybe it works slightly like a rocket engine).

-Dr. Doom's taking a mask he was awarded for humanitarian deeds in Latveria as part of his costume was appropriate, as it showed how far he had fallen because of his vengefulness. However, I found villains such as Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2, and Ras Al-Ghul in Batman Begins to be deeper villains, partly because they were foils to the heroes(Doctor Octopus uses his powers for evil deeds, after ironically telling Peter that "intelligence is a gift", which Peter later reminds him of, and causes him to seek redemption in destroying his fusion reactor before it destroys New York. Ras Al-Ghul additionally shares Batman's desire to fight corruption, but differs in his methods, as he believes Gotham to be beyond redemption, while Batman believes that he can make a difference.)

-Alicia's blindness wasn't much of a positive factor towards her not judging The Thing by his appearances, as she felt his skin.

-I found it interesting that Dr. Doom had plans for the other members(trick The Thing into abandoning the others, and make him human and vulnerable, attack The Human Torch with the heat-seeking missile, and heat Mr. Fantastic to make him unable to resist capture, then cool him to render him inflexible), but not Invisible Woman(perhaps he thought that she might join him, as expressed by "Let's not fight").

-It's strange that the Thing transformed several hours after the storm, but Mr. Fantastic's device transformed him back into a person, and back into The Thing within seconds.

-I liked the fact that the finale incorporated all four members' powers, and in equal importance(The Human torch creates a "supernova", Invisible Woman contains it, and after the inferno fades, the Thing breaks a water hydrant and Mr. Fantastic redirects the water towards the molten metallic Dr. Doom, immobilizing him.)

-The ending left the possibility of a sequel, but then again, comic book sequels typically have different villains each time, so Dr. Doom may not return(even though it is suggested that he is still alive, as his EMP affects the laptop).

-The Incredibles' powers were largely derived from the Fantastic Four's.
*Mr. Fantastic(Flexibile body)-Elastigirl/Mrs. Incredible
*The Thing(Extreme strength)-Mr. Incredible(However, The Thing is considerably stronger, as Dr. Doom's solution is to trick him into trusting him and turning human)
*Invisible Woman(Invisibility and force fields)-Violet(However, Violet's were more focused around herself, while Invisible Woman primarily used them to seal hazards or attack).
*The Human Torch(self-ignition)-Jack-Jack(towards the end, he sets himself on fire while trying to escape from Syndrome).

It's been the third weekend in a row in which I've seen a movie.
