The Sound and the Fury

Forewarned is forearmed.  For people who have no interest in my rants, and/or gratuitous female examples of all that is wrong with the comicbook industry, proceed no further.  For people who do....enjoy.

I consider myself to be a fairly enlightened individual.  Err, all things considered.  But there's legitimate grievances against 'the man' and then ( Read more... )

Excellent points. And you know, now that I think about it, among the people I have discussed the Fanlib 'controversy' with, that has come up a lot as a major point of annoyance. I mean, I have a lot of sympathy for some of the arguments, but taking it to extremes and/or making it into personal vendettas never helps. And I suppose it'd be easy to dismiss, but when you see respected industry professionals like Pierce and Gail Simone leading the mobs to storm the castle, you just kinda sit back, mouth hanging open and go...."Did I miss something here?"

I mean, Gail Simone! The woman writes freaking GEN13!! As in constantCaitlinFairchildcheesecake GEN13!!

okay, I didn't read all of this, because well, because I'm not aware of what is going on so I tend not to get involved in those kinds of things.

However, I do have one question that popped up while skimming.

Is that where the term mangina came from?

And yes, the cover is icky and brings to mind many a tireless arguement that no matter how strong you argue your point, someone will always piss you off with the opposite. It's amazing what people will say to make themselves feel better about something.

Ummm, no. No, you whore. This has nothing to do with the term mangina. Where did you....why would you....what made you thi....*splutters* Whatever.

And yes, true enough, it just annoys the shit out of me to see a group of people - who are fairly respectable individuals when not partaking in a mob scene - making HUGE assumptions about certain individuals based solely on 'implications' within a cover they had no hand in creating......and then ignore any effort to show facts that offer a contrary viewpoint.

*Shrugs* Whatever. Hell, this is mostly me just venting because I'm not stupid enough to get involved with the actual argument itself, because like you said, nobody'll ever be satisfied by it and no one's interested in changing their minds. Me included, so I'm aware of the inherent irony, its just...I'm right. Duh.

And you never let me vent!! Why don't you ever let me vent?

/whines.

Lol.

Oh bite me. You have no further room to mock. You actually thought mangina was a derivative of manga?!?!?

Oh Lisa.

Lol. There are no words, our pop-culture challenged friend.

Okay, beyond the fact that it's anatomically impossible to anything that low-cut without nipples on parade (seriously, does she have nipples? Are they just in the wrong place?), this sparks a wealth of interesting thoughts.

The MJ statue, for one. (Yes, whore, I brought it up. Deal.) I couldn't care less about her attire. Hell, I do laundry in my underwear. And I would like to think that what got double-X chromosomes everywhere flying off the handle in rage was the overall message. You know, the "my husband needs to save the world" - aka, be the big powerful man - "so naturally I must make sure he has a clean Spidey suit to do it in" - aka, time to play the Little Woman.

The pearls didn't help, either.

But I digress, since I found the whole thing kind of tongue-in-cheek after awhile. What I'm trying to say is, I can understand uproar over that one. This? This is... asinine ( ... )

Well actually I am aware its tentacle rape, unfortunately, as that's what a lot of the arguing is about, and how its 'rape fantasy.' Tentacle porn was me downplaying it a bit because I just can not see that for the life of me. I agree with pretty much everything you say here, because from everything I understand of the subject, I came to the same conclusion about the artist myself. I mean, this is the same woman who did the cover to X-Men Fairy Tales. (An absolutely gorgeous cover, much more worthy of her talents). And hell, its kind of amusing that as much as people are getting up in arms about all the stereotypes this cover brings up, I wanna be all...umm....way to be hypocritical and assume the same thing in thinking the artist was going for a hentai allusion when all you know about her is she's JAPANESE ( ... )
