vwip!...vwip!...vwip!...vwip!

It's been at least 20 years since I last owned a pair of corduroys. Only one kind would do, Levi's, from when I was about 8 until sometime around 11th or 12th grade. My favorite colors were the grays, blues and browns (all available in several shades), and I seem to remember about fifteen different colors (Levis is currently making four colors ( Read more... )

I habitually wore corduroys well into college, until I finally acquired some wardrobe clue. Did yours all come from Apple Scruffs in Lexington Center too?

I think it was a Lexington thing - I think we ALL changed from cords to jeans sometime in early high school. Even I, who claimed to be such a fashion rebel, had some. And yeah, I miss that sound, too.

hmmm...

By the way - do you realize how many of the Lexington folks have grown up to be kinky/artist/social rebel types, and/or gay or bi? Something in the water? The result of a really good educational system coupled with being bright and creative people?

It is rather fascinating. I wonder how many people who can trace back to Ms Everret's 3d/4th grade class are now utterly amazing adults?

Don't be so sure! I lived in Winchester and Arlington, which are both so far away from Lexington.

I tapered off wearing cords during high school, and finally stopped after that, when one of my mother's business partners (also not from Lexington) suggested (more like "requested") that I stop doing so.

Have you read The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson?...

No, I've read a few of his books, but I think I've not read that one. Should I?

Geez, the high school I went to had a dress code: shirts had to have collars (no T/tank without something over them, though turtlenecks were allowed) and there could be no [denim] jeans (so khakis and cords were okay). In warmer weather, shorts could be worn but they had to be no more than 2" above the knee ("Bermuda" not "sport"). I went 6 years more or less without wearing jeans (I started at that school in 7th grade, thanks, and yes the dress code applied to the entire school).

I don't really miss the vwip-vwip of cordouroy slacks.

Hey-

I'm mostly commenting here because I figure it'll get bounced to your email account, and I've lost your address. :) Could you write me back?

Thanks!
