Tired of the old Dewey Decimal? Bored with Library-of-Congress classification? Widener Library at Harvard doesn't have enough concurrent classification systems for your taste? Bookstore categories too narrow?

Try the new, the wow, the totally-California way...

A whole bookstore arranged by color!

Article about the art.

Oooooh, so neat! I want to go there! (Before they put it back the way it was...)

Regrettably, time-travel would be necessary, because the installation was for a week or two last November. However, there are a few perfect local candidates for an East-coast homage -- how about McIntyre & Moore or Lorem Ipsum? :-)

Ah! Lorem Ipsum is smaller and shinier... and needs the publicity. Let's make them do it!

(Dude, and they have a blog... Now if only I could figure out how to syndicate it to LJ; they seem to supply RSS code for each entry, but I don't see a main syndication stream...)

I had a friend in high school who sorted part of his CD collection by color, and I know someone now who has one bookcase sorted by color.

I keep thinking I want to sort my books by publisher, just for kicks.

I would argue that "by publisher" would actually be a somewhat meaningful categorization.

Well, yeah, that's part of the appeal. See what sort of order pops out.

Hee! When I was about 12, I'd read all the books that the local YA librarian could recommend. The library had a 10-book limit on borrowing, so I chose ten books with red spines, borrowed them, read them all (some were better than others -- this is how I discovered Freaky Friday), and returned the following week for ten yellow books.

I think I am weary of keeping my CDs in alphabetical order by artist.

Cool idea! But, of course, in looking at the pictures, I want to go in and group the shades together... :-)
