Hey, the only way I really chatter at you is through LJ so I'm glad to see you're back.

Sadly I don't have too many good recs since I've been deep in graduate school learning how to be a librarian so most of my reading has been for my children's literature class.

So have lots of hugs and good thoughts. Oh have you watched any White Collar, the new show on USA? I haven't seen enough of it to decide just how much I like it but from what I've seen its stylish and has its fun moments.

I was just thinking about you recently, actually. I wanted to poke but didn't want to bother. Nice to see you again. I still have your gift, by the way.

I just learned about Frog Thor recently!!

Did you expect Frank Castle to stop killing people? Isn't that what he does?

Also, I have a comic rec for you! Check out Chew.

Hey. Figured your disappearance from the Net meant what it did. Probably should have seen how you were doing, but not long after your loss, Batya and went through some of our own pain, and I have been a bit of a net recluse as well. It was only last week that I started to say hi to people from the game that I hadn't chatted with in ages. But I have missed you.

Have you been keeping up with Batwoman? Did you hear that Rucka and O'Neil and Cowan are doing the Blechest Night Question special? (Have been avoiding the horde of not-zombies, but will get this one if only because I think Denny will never get to write any version of Vic Sage again.) Have you been trying to keep track of how many children the Hulk suddenly has?

I normally think that if people tend to go under, I respect that, because RL supercedes life in LJ and fandom. In addition, you were reeling from loss, so it would have been rude for me to send on messages and poke.

But I did think about you, and burnt a candle before the season turned.

Not rude. The opposite of rude, in fact, and I mean that.

Thank you for the thoughts and the candle. That's lovely. Do people really do those little acts of thoughtfulness and kindness for others? I'm so cynical that I tend to assume that they don't. Which says far more about me than it does about you.

Although I do identify with the secular (not agnostic, nor atheist, just secular), I do light candles for particular people, and bind the intent into the struck match. So yeah, that aspect of Catholicism has still stuck with me. But then, I never left the church willingly, I was pushed from it, and when Ratzinger became Pope, I put my rosaries away. :/'

You're always the one who turns *me* onto cool things to watch, but I'll try...I was a little startled when Netflix recommended something called 'Ink', and even more surprised to see it came out in September and it's already available on Netflix, and even MORE surprised when I wound up actually liking it. It was obviously written and directed by someone who's watched 'Nightwatch' 195 times and only wrote one draft of the script--major characters appear out of nowhere, characters who you think are going to be major turn out to be second- or third-string, and on and on...but it's still a neat urban fantasy with a nifty look to the Nightmares who're the antagonists.

*notes*

I'd been aware of Ink, then completely forgot about it as life got busy when my mom got so sick. You know, I'm a bit squeamish of a sudden about nightmares of late (because I've been having them), although this film sounds right up my alley, all rough edges aside - how bad are they in the film?

The nightmares-the-events are really not bad at all. As the characters are being set up and you're watching both groups, the Nightmares and the, um, whatever you call their opposites, the folks who grant good dreams (let's call them Seramthgins), you get a tiny montage of the dreams they're inspiring. Little kid hitting a home run, playing guitar for cheering crowd from the Seramthgins, girl being laughed at by all her high school friends and having her hair fall out from the Nightmares.

The Nightmares-the-characters are visually striking in that human-but-not-QUITE way the Agents in 'Matrix' were, which totally worked for me. They turn out to be almost incidental to the fairy tale/quest story at the heart of the movie, though, which is probably a good thing.
