The rampant grief-mongering in the media over the past few days is really disgusting me.  32 innocent people dying is a terrible thing, but..
I imagine the same number of innocent young people died over the past few days in Iraq or Darfur.  I'm sure 32 people died as bystanders in gang-related violence in this country during this time.  32 young

Their stories didn't make headlines and haven't garnered a massive outcry even though maybe they should.

I think a few hundred mexicans die trying to break into Our Great Land every year not 12000. The Iraqis blowing themselves up did make the news as well.

IF 32 women were raped on one campus event, this would certainly be newsworthy. Would you expect them to have thirty-two separate news stories for unrelated events? Perhaps a newstory on every person that dies in Iraq?

It's all a matter of scale. I'd like to be able to see the news and read a few important facts - perhaps including the annual number of deaths of Criminals Crossing Our Sacred Border, but I wouldn't want a breakdown on each one because I don't care... and I don't think anyone else does either.
