My brain hurts; a recounting of my sunday which stretched on into my monday.
Yesterday I took Quinn out to Weaponmaster and Cody stayed home with Coley and Genna. This was generally good. There were about 42 people in the tourney, and A whole bunch of reeves. There could have been less down time between the rounds, but hey, what can you do.
At one point during the day I threw Ben out of my ring. He was arguing with Weasel and I about shots and how we called them, and then he swung on Raton, his opponent, I believe to hurt him. There is no other reason to have acted in that manner, he was angry and uncontrolled. I told him to settle down. Ben told me that it was my fault and then he called me a bitch. Then I threw him out of the ring. Weasel and a bunch other reeves, ( who were standing around because it was the semi’s of florentine) told him to skit too.
There was some discussion about throwing him from the tourney all together, but in the end they just kept him out of my ring, and I think the next category, but I can’t be sure, since... he wasn’t in my ring.
In the end it was Harry, Dizzy, Ben, in the top three. This will be the third tourney that Diz has taken 2nd in. I’m rather proud of him. He is sticking his nose to the grindstone and really working it. It probably helped that Justin was reeveing instead of competing. And some of the other guys weren't really at their tops.
Kerry was there with his squire to Tenuki... or how ever you spell it. It’s an excellent name, but somewhat beyond my powers of phonetics. Kerry again said that he would bequeath me his old Battletech books someday soon. Sure, he’s been saying this for nigh on 6 years now, But the allure of the original Comstar book has not waned. As well as several of the house books from before the in initial reprint. When they had, you know, stuff in them.
Jason drove Quinn and I home and we stopped at a terrible McDonald's to eat terrible food and let Quinn play on the play scape. Or more accurately, get trapped and traumatized in the playscape until I climbed in to the belly of the beast and saved him. It was the makings of a great comedy scene. Each time I ascended another step the funny stairs that are made so a small child wouldn’t fall very far quinn would let out another pitiful wail and I would panic and try to “get to him faster”. Which means in the local tongue. “Bash my head on the various bits of the playscape”.
Ow.
All was righted and Quinn gleefully noshed his chicken nuggets. And I talked to the lady sitting next to me. Two of her kids where scampering about on the play scape too. A little girl and a boy. There was something about the boy that set off red flags in my head. He moved in a halting manner and used some rudimentary sign to communicate. And since I was on my ‘everything is about my experiences horse’, I thought he must be autistic. Well he wasn’t. He has a syndrome, whose technical name isn’t springing to mind, but essentially his head is too small, and will never grow any larger. This causes some brain damage and some brain loss, because it cannot grow to size inside his head. In the old days he would have been what was disparagingly called a ‘pinhead’. I thought this was one of the things that we will all our modern medical prowess had cured or at least learned to treat. It made me sad to think that he was probably just passed over. His parent’s concerns over looked until it was to late for him to have a normal life. Condemned by lack of action.
We arrived home through a storm and Cody was worn out from his baby play day. Worse, Coley was apparently worn out too. He was asleep when I got home and he didn’t wake up until around nine.
No rest for the wicked. Between Coley and Genna, I got to bed around 5:30am. My resolve started to break around four, I had to be careful not to lay down or even lean my head back, for fear that I would succumb to the lure of sleep.
Got a lot of
wiking done while I watched back logs of
Brotherhood 2.0. Coley really likes the intro music.
I am functioning on about two hours of sleep and I feel hung over from standing out side in the sun all day and getting sunburnt and not drinking enough water to mitigate any of these factors. I fear that the children will sense their advantage and try to take over the world. If anyone wants to come hang out today give me a ping, I could sure use the support.
