Hubby and I watched the premiere of Americal Idol tonight. You know, the audition rounds, where there is a little speculation and some authoritative predictions (he'll make it through the audition, but get cut in Hollywood, that girl is a finalist, but not a winner, that sort of thing) but mostly there is laughing at the weirdos.
That girl they started with, the one with all the big hopes and dreams and sweet face... yeah, who didn't see that coming? At least they were kind. Simon was sweet about it, really. It's the ones with the sense of entitlement and attitude that he gets vicious with. It's amazing to me that after five years, people still think arguing is a good idea. The ones who get turned down, even if they were tremendously awful--if they can leave with dignity and grace, they're not nearly as laughable as the ones who try to bargian and whine.
And that one toward the end, the super fan? The one who had every single episode on tape and watched every Idol and knew all about the show and said that she and the show were BFF (seriously, she used the term) was like every wanky fangirl ever. When she started in with that tone and that "Well, I've been in training for ten years, so whatever" and "I have a degree in vocal performance" and all that crap I literally shouted out "So talk to my GPA, assholes!"
Seriously. That woman was Fandom Wank personified. You never think people are that crazy for real, though. Just on the internet. Apparently not. How disturbing.
Fabulous start. And I know it'll get all serious and competitive and full of those deliberately brutal results shows, but for now I want to sit back and enjoy the crazy.
Also, I've become rather enamoured of Jeeves and Wooster lately. Is there some place online one can find episodes? I caught a couple on youtube but the pickings seem rather slim over there. Netflix has them on DVD (say it with me--Netflix is made of awesome) but that involves so much waiting. Bah. Anyway, to appease the sudden J/W bug, I wrote a ficlet. Posted it over at
indeedsir, called
Jeeves and the Doctor. Give it a go, if you're into the fandom and feeling inclined.
