Just like a fire, keeping me warm,
In your embrace, you shelter the storm
Whether it's wrong, whether it's right,
Please let me hold you tonight

You make me feel love

Draco was sitting in front of the fireplace in his father's study, slowly drinking his Firewhiskey and staring unseeingly into the flames. Despite the warmth of the fire, he was trembling. He tried to suppress the shivers, hating to show any sign of weakness, but he didn't seem to be able to control his body.

Highly aggravated, Draco took another mouthful of the whiskey, hoping the alcohol might help him regain his composure. He felt the liquor burning down his throat, but it wasn't strong enough to chase away the coldness in his bones.

"I thought I might find you here," Hermione said quietly from the doorway.

Draco didn't look up nor did he acknowledge her presence in any other way.

"How are you holding up?" Hermione asked carefully, coming closer.

Draco's only response was to take another swig of his whiskey. The glass was shaking in his hand.

Hermione sat down on the armrest of the winged chair Draco was occupying, touching his shoulder lightly. He jerked away immediately and Hermione dropped her hand.

"I though you were mad at me," he finally said.

Hermione looked at him with concern. "Do you really think I care about our fight right now?" she asked. She didn't try to touch him again but remained sitting on the armrest, her legs close to Draco's, but not quite touching.

"So it only takes my father dying and you forget all about telling me that it is over between us?" Draco asked cynically.

Hermione sighed. "Honestly, Draco. We fight all the time and we break up at least once a month. You know it's never permanent."

Draco didn't reply. He returned to staring into the fireplace and sipping his whiskey. Hermione stayed at his side, nervously plucking at the fabric on the armchair, glancing at Draco every few seconds, worry evident on her face.

"The healers said it was a heart attack," Draco said after a while. "It happened so fast that even magic couldn't save him."

"I'm so sorry," Hermione murmured.

"Why?" Draco spat, suddenly angry. "You never liked him. You hated him almost as much as he hated you."

"I'm sorry you lost your father," Hermione insisted. "I know he meant a lot to you."

Draco lapsed into silence again, his anger gone as fast as it had come. He felt deflated, surreal, like this was all just a bad dream and any moment his father would come into the study, demanding to know why Draco dared to drink his most expensive Firewhiskey.

Hermione reached out for him once more, and this time Draco didn't pull away. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pressing her face against his cheek. Another tremor ran through Draco's body, and he knew that Hermione must have felt him shivering. He was glad she chose not to comment on it. Her only response was to run a soothing hand up and down his back. He found himself strangely comforted by the gesture.

"Is there anything I can do?" Hermione asked.

"Can you raise the dead?"

"No, but sometimes it helps to talk about it," she replied, ignoring Draco's sarcasm. Draco stayed silent.

"Or we could go to bed and I make sure you think about something else for a while," Hermione offered, pressing a kiss to the side of his neck.

"I don't feel like talking," Draco whispered. Hermione took his hand and led him upstairs.
