A/N: Written for the Inter-House Free For All! Callenge at sortinghatdrabs, week 30. The pompts I used were history and obligations.
“As your parole officer it is one of my obligations to judge whether you are fit to rejoin society or if it would be advisable that you serve the rest of your sentence in Azkaban.” Hermione said, in her most strict and professional sounding voice.
“And you don’t think, given our past history, that you are a bit too biased to handle my case?” Draco asked sarcastically.
Hermione looked at him intently. “Do you honestly believe you are going to find someone who isn’t going to judge you for what you have done? You were a Death Eater, Malfoy. There isn’t a single person in the Ministry who will be impartial to that.”
An awkward pause stretched through the office. Finally, Hermione cleared her throat.
“However, I can assure you that I take my job very seriously and that I make it a point to maintain the highest ethical standards. I won’t let past occurrences cloud my judgement.”
“I’m glad to hear it,” Draco replied, the sarcasm still evident. “So you won’t hold the fact that I pledged myself to the Dark Lord or that I called you a buck-toothed Mudblood in school against me?”
“I will do my best.”
“Splendid.”
Hermione sighed “Shall we return to matters at hand?” she asked, shovelling through the papers on her desk. “On of your parole requirements is that you maintain a steady job. Because I already foresaw that finding employment might be difficult for someone of your status, I took the liberty of finding work for you. You will begin next Monday.”
“And what kind of work exactly did you find for me?”
“You are going to be the assistant of a Muggle veterinarian. He specialises in small animals such as ferrets.”
“I’m so glad that you put our past behind you.”
