It didn’t take much to move all of Naoto’s belongings. In fact, it took precisely one backpack (Naoto’s) to fit everything that he had into.

As an added convenience, he was already carrying said backpack and belongings on his person.

Naoki was walking slightly ahead of Naoto, partly due to him needing to lead the way, and partly due to his long stride.

He did not see the small smile that lingered on Naoto’s lips throughout the journey.
=========================

“Well, here it is,” Naoki opened his front gate, “It’s nothing much, but make yourself at home.”

“You’ve gotta be kidding me. This is ‘nothing much’?”

Naoki’s home turned out to be a single storey standalone, surrounded by a small, well-kept garden. It looked simply too big for just one person to be living there.

“Come on in. I’ll show you where you can put your things… TECCHAN!”

The second the main door opened, the named ginger cat had darted through the gap and pounced onto Naoki’s guest. Naoto almost-shrieked and tried to flail the cat off. In retaliation, Tecchan bit one of his hands and scratched the other.

Naoki grabbed Tecchan by the scruff of his neck, marched over to the closet, and deposited the spitting cat inside before slamming the door shut.

“I’m really sorry about that. I didn’t expect him to be this adverse to visitors,” Naoki ran a hand through his hair, “You alright?”

“A little shaken, but otherwise I’m fine. Maybe I should have told you that cats don’t really like me.”

“The same could be said about you, I suppose.”

“Hey, I’m merely returning their sentiments.”

“Sure. The first-aid kit’s inside. Let’s get those scratches cleaned first, shall we?”
=========================

“Do you mind if I let Tecchan out for some fresh air? It might do him some good.”

“… Go ahead, I guess?”

Three minutes later, a bemused Naoki returned the tomcat to the closet, freeing Naoto from the corner under the kitchen sink.
=========================

“Watch out!”

The warning came too late. Intent on getting away from his feline tormentor, Naoto ran straight into the glass door that separated the house from Naoki’s balcony.

After Tecchan had been safely secured, Naoki found Naoto examining the very door that he ran into earlier.

“They float!” Naoto exclaimed in surprise, pointing at the fingerprints that he had left on the clear glass.

Naoki shook his head in disbelief. Hadn’t the man seen glass before?
=========================

By the end of the week, a quarter of Naoki’s medical supplies had been used on Naoto.
=========================

Naoki was woken up the following Sunday by a loud scream, followed by a loud thump.

When he rushed into Naoto’s room to see what the matter was, he found Naoto on the floor, pressed against the far wall, staring wide-eyed at a certain ginger cat resting on his pillow.

“Tecchan, how did you get in here?” Naoki heaved an exasperated sigh as he scooped the tomcat up.

“How would I know?! I closed the door!” Naoto gesticulated wildly as he spoke.

“Please calm down…”

“That thing was this close to me when I woke up. THIS CLOSE,” Naoto held a hand an inch away from his own face.

Tecchan purred contentedly in Naoki’s arms.
=========================

Quite a sight greeted Naoki when he returned from work.

Tecchan had jumped onto Naoto’s lap, and was sniffing the shorter man’s face languidly. Naoto, however, was leaning as far back as he could into the couch, body as stiff as a wooden board, unblinking eyes (nearly crossed) fixed warily on the cat.

“Naoki? A little help over here?” Although Naoto’s voice came out as a plea, his eyes never moved from Tecchan.

“He’s just trying to get to know you better. Relax and give him some time to get used to your scent.”

“I AM relaxed.” Naoto’s body stiffened even more as Tecchan moved closer to his face.

“Sure.”

As Tecchan moved to his lap, Naoto let out an audible sigh of relief. That, however, was cut short with a pained wince when the tomcat started kneading his lap, claws half extended.

“He likes you.” That certainly took long enough.

“Really? I can’t tell.” Naoto’s face was contorted with a mixture of pain and discomfort.

It took another five minutes for Tecchan to settle down onto Naoto’s lap, but upon seeing the other man tentatively stroke the ginger cat with a bandaged hand, Naoki could not help but smile.
