what is your favorite tahoe run? snowboarding is very addicting, very fun!! i'm still beginner, but thank goodness it has a pretty steep learning curve. :)
i'm recovering from a bruised rib last week, but i should be ready to go again next week! we'll be going up to tahoe later on this season, but wanted to know which run was the favorite and why. we're all at different stages of snowboarding: the boys like the parks, the girls are just carving, and a few like me are just learning the basics (e.g., falling leaf, stopping, etc). :P so what do you recommend? and thanks ahead of time!
I love tahoe, but for my skill level, my favorite resorts are alpine meadows and northstar. Northstar and sierra are great for beginners and advanced beginners because there are a wide variety of runs and longer runs for people at that skill level. For more advanced and advanced intermediate riders, kirkwood is awesome because the mountain has such varied terrain. i hear sugar bowl is great for intermediates as well. my guy friends tell me that they like the parks and the pipe at northstar and sierra. but i know the snow at sierra isn't as fluffy as it is at other resorts unless it's fresh-fallen. and the backside at northstar kind of sucks if the conditions aren't ideal.
Non-locals tend to favor Kirkwood, Alpine meadows, and Squaw while the locals I've talked to really like the smaller mountains like Mt Rose and Sugar Bowl. personally, i don't think you can go wrong with any major Tahoe resort. :)
I love Mt. Rose. It's a great beginner mountain and there's less people. I'm heading out there this weekend so hopefully, there's still some nice powder to cushion my falls. Two previous weekends, i was at Kirkwood and the powder snow was fantastic but the downfall is that it caters to more advanced snowboarders.
Thanks for reminding me that you can buy mt. rose lift tickets at rei. :D
Kel, that sounds awesome! I went to Heavenly last year and fell totally in love with Tahoe. Hopefully I'll get to check out some of the other Tahoe resorts soon. :)
sounds like mt rose was awesome this past weekend. i need to go up there before the season ends. glad you liked your new equipment. there's nothing like the first run of the season on new gear. i heard tahoe had a serious dump last week so that must have been amazing!
i was up at mammoth from last wed night up until sunday afternoon. i couldn't have asked for better conditions up there - all clear and a fresh 16" dump that afternoon that i arrived. i love my new bindings (cartels) and my new boots (burton boxers which was a last minute purchase before the trip).
dang, i love reading about everyone's snowboarding. you'd think that after awhile i'd get sick of snowboarding, but the love grows deeper and deeper each season. actually thinking about a year-round marketing job up in mammoth =X
