i can one up that...in yellow springs, i worked for a woman (a psychologist, no less), who insisted that her 2-year-old required lesson plans and should know the alphabet by sight, as well as be able to tell you the first letter of random words.

in retaliation, i taught him different people's jobs. mommy's was to be a psychologist, mine was to take care of him, and his was...to play! that really pissed his mom off.

i had to quit that job.

Yeah, I think kids should get t be kids. If you are looking for more info on Montessori schools ask bhakti she has been working at one. Otherwise, play on!

Ugh. And above all, the thing that really bugs me about this scenario: The ad says right there that they are dropping the child off at school every afternoon. The child already has daily, structured time when she can engage with letters and numbers if she's so inclined. Of course all she wants to do in the morning is play! As a teacher, that's a major pet peeve of mine. You enrolled the child in school, now relax and let it work. Yeesh.
