It's actually a variation of something Supernanny came up with for a 4 year old who needed to give up her pacifiers. They had her gather up all the pacies and put them in a bag and they'd be for "babies who don't have pacies." Then they hung the bag in a tree and in the morning the faeries left her a big girl doll in the tree. I've been creating our own faery lore for various hurdles, like the bedtime faeries who come and give you good dreams (but they won't come if a grown-up is in the room).
