Update and LJ Love

I was going to talk about my week but then Burning Crusade happened and it pretty much trumped everything that happened in the three days prior to release. So let me tell you a tale.

Right about 11pm Monday night I got this 'oh my god what if UPS fucks up and I don't get my BC copy on time' moment. Sure I got it from Amazon with Prime overnight shipping and yes as of two hours prior to panic the boxes were already in Newark, DE even though they had shipped from Texas and some other place. Still, the little voice kept whispering in my ear 'the UPS guy will ring and run like he has done before and you'll be unable to do a blessed thing about it'. The voice is really effective let me tell you. So I turn to SB (the new boy) and say, while he's sitting next to me learning the ropes and making all the noob mistakes people make, that perhaps I can run and pick him up a copy at the local GameStop since they will be open in an hour. After some discussion he agrees and I proceed to finish running him through a quest, pack my bags and such before heading off to the nearest open store. I zoom as I am wont to do and get there just as they are closing up. I pre-ordered at a different GameStop but I figure they are a store in the 21st century surely this won't be a problem. Well after gaining access with my handy 'I preordered!' call of the gamer I find out this I not the case. Woe!

So I plead for about three minutes since well I paid for the pre-order and I see the stack behind the counter but to no avail. I was more annoyed that the company can't seem to run an effective network but there's no time for that as I hop back in the car and think 'Fuck Jersey I bet you that even after 1am I can find a store willing to sell me the game in NYC' and homeward bound I sped.

The drive allowed me to seriously catchup with one of my oldest friends (older than leatherwish and that is damn near ancient) and make tentative plans to party sometime in late spring or early fall depending on what I am up to then. After cutting across Manhattan I take the Brooklyn Bridge over so I can get to the GameStop on Court Street. As I am rolling down the street I check the time 1:54am but I have faith in my fellow New York gamers, they would never let me down. Sure enough I roll past the store, the lights are on and I see someone inside. I double park in the fire zone and rap on the door; a closed door means nothing 'round these parts! The salesperson unlocks the door and after I state my case, grants me passage. Once inside I snap a copy up, pre-order God of War II (woo!), get the strategy guide (for sonofhephaestus since I don't need no steenkin' guide and head back out. Just as I am stepping out a cop car pulls up and I think they're about to make my late night gaming addiction a lot more expensive with one of those painful $115 fire zone tickets but no oh no they see my bag and ask what got a midnight release. The sales guy cheerfully tells them it's BC and they ask if they can pick up a copy. I laugh hop in my car and zoom off for home at last.

People wonder why I love my town so much, why I refuse to move. NYC never lets me down. Never.

That stated, to whomever gifted me that anonymous lovely LJ paid subscription -- many many thanks.
