Look! It's a Weekend Report!

It's been a heckuva weekend, really.
  • Props: I spent a few hours pulling more props for ResCom. None of them got approved. I will be so happy when this show opens and I don't have to deal wth this anymore.
  • Matt!: But Matt came back to visit, and we had lunch with David Green and dinner off by ourselves, and we talked about lots of stuff and it was really lovely. I gave him his birthday present, which I hope he enjoys, and we talked about Changeling a lot - both his and mine.
  • LARP: Friday night was Adam's larp, Life and Death in the Garden of Butterflies. I was Meredith Naismith, who was either 1) an archmage and the mystical guardian of her family, or 2) absolutely delusional. The game didn't make a call one way or the other. If I was delusional, it'd be slightly amusing because I would have therefore convinced my entire family to help me defeat an imaginary demon. But on the other hand, something about the entire scenario seemed a little... Autumnal, perhaps. Still, it was certainly great fun. And I managed to figure out a major plot point, which made me quite happy.
  • Auditions: On Saturday, I spent most of the day in auditions for The Underpants, the next show I'm stage managing. Secretly, I hate auditions. I think it's my least favorite part of the process, excepting strike (which is in a category all it's own). I hate auditions not in and of themselves, though. There's something very exciting about the starting of a new show, which it symbolizes. But at auditions themselves, you sit around and you meet and get to know dozens of lovely people, and then of course not all of them can be cast, and it's kind of heartbreaking. We had a lot of people turn out, wanting to be in our cast of 6. I kind of wish some of them were going to be in it, but Abby assures me that she's worked with some of the people we did cast before, and they're really lovely, so I'm hopeful.
  • My birthday: My birthday itself is later this week, but we celebrated it Saturday night, because it's the last time the entire family would be together for awhile. And Matt was there, which was added awesomeness. Mom made me a knitting cake, which was tres cool. And there were a bunch of neat presents, including a demonic rubber duck (it's a stage manager thing) and some CAKE CDs. And then Matt, who is (as I hope I have said before) AWESOME, gave me a PS2. A PS2! So then we sat around and played Katamari Damacy, and it was wonderful and I managed to roll up something like 6 stars and 5 constellations. I have discovered the joy of getting to about 2m and then running around chasing down all the people, which is probably evil of me, but anyhow. THen, after I got tired of trying to do Ursa Major, we played some WoW for a bit, and my Mage got a super-sexy pointed hat, which was great.
  • Vanities: Went to see the latest Theatreworks show, which was a musical adaptation of a one-act play from the 70s. It could maybe be best described as "Normals And How They Ruin Their Lives." It was okay. I was kind of amused by it, but really it wasn't that great. The costuming was pretty inspired, though, and the lighting was nifty.
  • Chargen: Then I had chargen for my as-yet-unnammed Changeling game, which I think went pretty well. Certainly an interesting assortment of characters. And I have two nockers! I'm so happy. :) Still need to get charactesr from a handful more people, and also I need to retool the beginning a bit, but I'm thinking I'm in okay shape to begin.
  • CCC: For whatever reason, I was really blindingly incompetent at rehearsal yesterday in a thousand and one tiny ways. It was really horrible. I felt so disappointing. It was especially horrible because Meredith was there, and I wanted to tell her that usually I'm a lot more on top of everything, but there was no really good way to do that. Ah so, so it goes. Hopefully I'll be more wired together tonight.

It's really hot this afternoon. I have errands to run for Stanford, but before that I'm totally going to see Pirates. Finally. I'm looking forwards to it.
