This made me laugh so much:

'Wacky warnings' rewarded in US

It reminds me of some hammocks that we had when we went camping, that informed us not to set fire to them, not to swing on them, and 'Don't take sweets from strangers'.

And I need the cheering up, because I just got a rejection letter from Cambridge. I am not actually very sore about this (I ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear about Cambridge. When do you need to enrol/apply to other universities? Any ideas on which you'd like to go to?

I've already applied, because you have to do it super-early if you want to apply to Oxford or Cambridge. You get to put down six choices, and I've got offers of three A grades from Exeter, AAB from York, and BBBB from Southampton (although I don't want to go there anyway). All I'm waiting on are offers from Bristol (probably AAA) and Warwick (AAB). So, err ... lots of A grades needed.

I'm not really picky about which I go to - they're all lovely. I just have to make lots of visits now, to decide which are my final top two.

Oh dear! That's too bad. But at the same .. I'm applying to UVA, which isn't Ivy League or anything, but it's top notch for VA. But I don't think I'd actually like to go because I had heard that the atmosphere is very competitive and unpleasant. So, I suppose your experience at the university is more important than prestige the university gets you. Do you still have pretty good choices?

Yes, basically only one in four applicants get into Cambridge, so I've applied for the universities that are pretty much of Oxbridge standard (and are apparently full of Oxbridge rejects!) The ones I might go to are Warwick, York, Bristol, and Exeter. I just have to chose between them now!

That's lame about Cambridge. You've appplied to heaps of good universities though, right?

Just think that if you'd gone to Cambridge, it probably would have been fate that a bus would have run you over or something.

**takes a running leap and glomps Kate** Cambridge smells. It always helps when there's someone else to be bitter with, because while those who did get in can be sympathetic.... it's not quite the same thing. Lordee, I hope you're having a good btich fest as I write this. You certainly deserve it. And some good (preferably sweet and calorie ridden) food. Just to take the edge off.

You're wonderful, you know that, right? Cambridge clearly don't know what the fuck they are on about.

Ha, I love that everyone seems to be genuinely shocked when I tell them, and then say things like, "They got in? I'd have put you in!" Which is a brilliant boost to my self-esteem.

Screw the diet. (After only two days, I have not achieve a single 'healthy day'. I had lots of jely beans yesterday, and lots of pate today.) I am going to eat one of your chocolate peanuts bar things. Because they are yummy.
