I can't see Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which though not the most well-written book has made its way into our social consciousness; you can't keep referring to the book in debates on genetic research without having it on a list of recommended reads, surely? Jekyll and Hyde isn't on there, and I would argue similar points for including that,

You'll be pleased to know that this isn't the real list. This is one that people have replaced books on, to appear better read, and is very different from the original. Cut and paste the one from the BBC website for the real one (it doesn't have Dan fucking Brown on it for a start!)
