Well my Thanksgiving ended with a bang. Coming back from my sister's on Friday night I got a deer with the car. It was about a half mile from the place I hit my first deer (yes, my first. In total I've gotten 5 deer with vehicles.). It was after dark and I had a line of traffic coming from the other direction with a large SUV in the lead which ( Read more... )

Thought you might find this appropriate seeing how you acquired your latest catch of venison. Glad no one was hurt in the deer strike.

Does fawndoue go well with Bambi Bumper Burgers?

I've yet to hit a deer. I've come close, many times, but not yet. I never lost my "deer scan" from living in upstate NY. Even in Hawai'i, it was always on, only in Hawai'i it was wild pigs, not deer.

Considering the area and time I have to drive I've done pretty good not hitting one for better than 20 years. Bright, high set headlight (most bigger SUV's headlight are right at my eye level in this car) is likely the chief factor in not seeing it in time.

So, um, assuming 4k and 70 lbs... That's over $57/lb. No wonder venison is so expensive.

Yeah, I nailed one many years ago broadside. Ended up costing us $3K, which insurance covered mostly except for a small deductible. Glad to hear you're alright.

I've had harder jolts going over a pothole. Stopped about 3 car lengths beyond the point of impact so very low speed. I'll find out this week what the actual damage value is.

Do you have comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance? If you do, that should cover the repair, less the deductible.
