My new Droid X rocks. I finally have my very first smart phone and I'm really enjoying it. The only thing I'm not liking is that it doesn't have a reminder notification. It rings when I get a voice mail or text, but it never rings beyond the first time. My old phone beeped at me every two minutes to remind me, even if I didn't pick it up for ( Read more... )

flashback!

Admittedly, I've found myself slipping more into the douchebag-with-her-nose-buried-in-her-phone role since I got my new phone, though I tend to use my phone more as a retreat whn I am at a loss on what to do with the 3D creatures in front of me- particularly since I gave up smoking, which was my other crutch for social awkwardness.

Haha! Looks like you beat me to the bitching awhile ago! :)

The only place where I feel like it's okay is when you're with really close friends. Close friends should feel comfortable enough that they can hang out with you and watch your TV, or play video games or whatever. If you're close enough that silence is comfortable and they're more like family, then I don't find that behavior rude, unless you're actually attempting to have a conversation with them.

you bitched much more eloquently than my rant. And thank you for instigating a nice little journey back through my own LJ. Funny the things that were post-worthy (everything) in the LJ hey-day.

and thank for reminding me that the real world - happening right this very minute- is always more interesting than people's self-selected and self-reported versions of their world.

Right there with you.

I feel like I am one of the only creatures left on earth without an internet capable phone. I have a couple of friends that I no longer bother to invite to gatherings because ALL they do is play on the phone to the point that I feel like I'm bothering them if I dare to talk to them.

They threw Blackberries at everyone at work, and now people are getting injured at work because they are too busy talking, texting, or reading email. One gal managed to flip her dumb ass down the escalator at work at the main door at the corporate center.

It's gotten to the point now, that they made a "what to do and what not to do with your handheld devices" safety video, and we had to read some training presentation on the whole thing, too.

Ugh, I hate how cell phones have gotten to be. I do have an iPhone, but I would never be on it when I was meant to be socializing or doing something else. I like it for the convenience of being able to look things up, to be able to get accurate traffic information, to be able to check email in a pinch, whatever. But I probably don't even do those things daily, let alone constantly the way I see some people doing. Kids with cell phones is a major pet peeve of mine, too... in researching kindergartens for next year, I'm seeing "cell phone policies" right next to dress codes, and it is really freaking me out. Maybe I'll change my mind by the time they are old enough for it to matter, but right now I feel like the only reason I'll want my kids to have a cell phone is to call me when they are old enough to go out without me. If they want the phone to do anything other than call me or 911, they'll need to pay the bill.
