[series] Part 2: Amnesia?
Yabu and Reiko sang together at karaoke with other mutual friends, but of course, without Inoo. Now that she thinks about it, Reiko hasn’t even seen Inoo at school for awhile.
The next day at school, yabu walked up to Reiko. He called her name but his smile faded when he saw her.
“Doushita no, Reiko-chan?”
“I miss Kei-chan. I’ve been so busy recently I’ve had no time to see him. I don’t even know why I never see him anymore; I know we sit across the room, but I’ve always had the time to talk to him” she cried even louder, making yabu pull her into a hug and thinking, Chikkusho~ I’ve got to make her even busier than she is now. I’ve got to make her forget Kei so she’ll think she loves me like I do her.
Just then, Inoo passed by and Reiko quickly wiped her tears away and called him. Inoo stopped to look at Reiko sadly before walking away without another word. Reiko ran after him, with Yabu close behind. Reiko grabbed Inoo’s arm, repeating his name again and again, while Inoo tried to get out of her grasp.
“Kei!” someone called Inoo to join their group
“Un, give me a minute!”
“60…59…58…57…56…-”The boy started counting down the seconds, walking backwards farther and farther from him to give the two space.
Inoo turned to Reiko, “Reiko-san, gomen ne” and tried to get out of her grasp again to join his new friends.
“What about us? Don’t you miss me ?” Reiko asked. A pause, then she added, “And you used to call me Rei…”
“Fine, I’ll call you Rei again, but that doesn’t change anything. You’ve got Kou-chan now, you don’t even have time for me anymore. Dakara, my priority is my new friends, gomen, Rei”
“So that’s what kept me away from you?! Kei-chan! I won’t ever forget you! I’ll make time for you! Please don’t abandon me!”
“Kei-kun! Are you coming or not? Your one minute is up” Inoo took one last look at Reiko before saying, “Oi! Matte yo!”
Yabu came up to hug Reiko, but was surprised when she wouldn’t let him, “Gomen, Kouta-kun. Please leave me alone”
“But I’m here! I’ll make you happy!” Yabu yelled after her, not understanding Reiko’s despair.
“I SAID… leave me alone!” and she ran away to the school rooftop. Before she was out of sight, she yelled to Yabu, “If you truly love me, you’ll give me my personal space and be understanding of my feelings right now”
For the next few days, Reiko would talk to everyone but Yabu and Inoo. Inoo was getting used to it but Yabu became worried because he thought she was mad at him. He tried stopping her multiple times to ask what was wrong; but every time she would just ask him to stop (if he touched her) and walks away as if nothing happened. Yabu suddenly thought of an idea - maybe Inoo would know.
“Kei, what did you do to Reiko-chan?” Yabu looked mad
“Me? I haven’t talked to her in three months! I thought she’s with you all these three months!”
“She’s ignoring me”
“Kou-chan! Give her some space will you? Every time I see you you’re always calling her name, if you guys weren’t together already. You already got her, why can’t you give her some personal space? No wonder she’s ignoring you. Even I would be annoyed” Inoo said and ran away
Yabu thought of Inoo’s words, how he would also be annoyed; he was the most patient person Yabu has ever known. “Jyaa, what should I do? I don’t want to lose her”
“Kou-chan. Give. Her. Some. Space. She’ll go talk to you when she’s ready.”
Reiko continued to pretend the two boys she’s known the longest did not exist. Her girl friends were glad that she was back with them, but was aware that she was missing Yabu and especially Inoo even though she pretends not to know them.
A new school year has started and Reiko hasn’t talked to Yabu or Inoo yet. She hasn’t seen much of them either over the break. But she walked into her new classroom with her friends who also got into the same high school. As first years, they had new classmates and when she looked inside the room, two boys’ faces was especially familiar. For the next three years, she’ll be able to get to know both boys again.
Yabu walked up to Reiko, “Reiko-chan!”
Reiko smiled at him, “Hajime mashite, Amakusa Reiko desu, yoroshiku onegaishimasu” and went with her friends to find a seat. Yabu stared at her in disbelief, did Reiko actually forget him?!Inoo saw that and stared at Reiko, then back to Yabu. For an instant, it seems as if they made a truce; they’re going to team up and find out why Reiko had to introduce herself again.
