As if mocking Double's transformation weren't enough.
Being the regular annoyance she was, Akiko had apparently raided Shoutarou's wardrobe and snatched one of his prized fedora hats and dressed up like Shoutarou.
“Beautiful Akiko-san, these books are more valuable than you think! They are the basis of life!” Akiko, mimicking Shoutarou's voice, waved some of Shoutarou's hard-boiled detective novels around, before sitting down on his chair and propping her feet up on the cluttered table.
Her only audience, Philip, watched in amusement. “You do realise that Shoutarou would be rather upset when he sees you, right?” He chuckled softly.
“Who cares about that half-boiled detective? I didn't know wearing a fedora could be so much fun!”
As Akiko spun around on the chair flipping through the books on the table, the front door slammed open.
“AKIKO! Who gave you the right to take my clothes?!”
A fuming Shoutarou stood at the door of the Narumi Detective Agency, gritting his teeth in obvious frustration. Before Akiko could reply, the detective reached into Akiko's bag and brought out a familiar green object.
Slowly moving towards Akiko, he prepared to strike her head as she had done many times before. But before he could make his move, the blade of a wind turbine momentarily blocked sunlight from entering the office through the window by his table. For a second, Shoutarou thought he saw his late boss sitting in the chair instead of Akiko.
“Oya-san...” Stunned, Shoutarou dropped the slipper. When light filled the room again, the image of Detective Narumi did not completely vanish. Instead, in its place was young Akiko, looking very much like her father used to.
“Shoutarou, what's wrong?”
Shoutarou shook his head upon hearing Philip's voice.
“It's nothing. Perhaps I shouldn't be too strict on Akiko.”
Philip took a glance at a confused Akiko, who was probably expecting Shoutarou to hit her on her head like she had done countless times. “Indeed. She may still be young and immature, but she's old enough to make her own decisions. However, you must guide her with patience.”
The half-boiled detective sighed, before picking up the slipper and putting it back in Akiko's bag. “Don't do it again, okay Akiko?"
Akiko took off the beige fedora hat. “I'm sorry, Shoutarou-kun.”
Shoutarou took a deep breath, before giving a slight smile. “Apology accepted.”
As he and Philip left for the secret room behind the agency with Philip, Akiko suddenly jumped up. “Wait! Don't go there!”
However, the warning came too late. When Shoutarou reached the door to the secret room, he noticed that all of his fedora hats were missing from their usual places on the door.
“AKIKO!”
Alternate Ending
A fuming Shoutarou stood at the door of the Narumi Detective Agency, gritting his teeth in obvious frustration. Before Akiko could reply, the detective reached into Akiko's bag and brought out a familiar green object.
Slowly moving towards Akiko, he prepared to strike her head as she had done many times before. Without a second thought, he drew back his arm and brought the infamous Green Slipper Of Doom™ in contact with the back of Akiko's head.
*SMACK*
“Ow!”
Shoutarou smirked as he twirled the slipper around his hand like a pistol. “Serves you right, detective wanna-be.” As he left for the secret room behind the agency with Philip, Shoutarou threw the single slipper over his shoulder, hitting Akiko on her head.
“Heh, this is actually kind of fun.”
