I'm going to miss LJ

I'm really going to miss LJ. To me, it's still the best of the social networking sites because people tended to take more time in making posts and would expand on things that were important to them instead of just writing a single sentence about what they're doing at that moment or listing up a band they liked. Twitter and Facebook, to me, actually ( Read more... )

I feel like as I get older I want to pour less and less of my life online.

How much more of Fite! are you planning on redrawing?

I never really felt the need to 'pour,' so much as share work and the occasional opinion. I'm cut off from a great deal of the people I care about, so this was the next best thing. Ah, well. And thanks, Peggy. You were one of the few who seemed to always have something to say. Case in point.

As for Fite, that's up for grabs. It has more to do with when I think the comic will feel solid enough as a whole. Not too much more I don't think.

Probably won't be 'writing' online much if at all. That stuff seemed to be the least accepted stuff I shared online. Tyler said that when I posted opinion, I tended to think it through so far that it left little room for others to comment. I don't know that that's true as it also suggests that whenever I post something of a textual nature, I'm right. So that can't be true.

We will BOTH be at MFF! Last minute decision kind of but we're booked. Will you and or X be there? Be great to see you!

That's cool to hear! I love Lupis in Tabula and really the only place to play it well is at cons. I'll make notes to at least go to that. Otherwise, it will depend on who's there. From what I can see, there will be at least a couple of people I rarely get to see and a couple I might like to meet.

Tyler tells me that just because people don't respond to my posts doesn't mean they're not reading or connecting with them. Same with my art. Well, I see plenty of other people who don't have this problem so really I'm left to conclude that what I post has little general interest. And since that bothers me, it makes more sense to stop doing it. On the other blogs, since I don't advertise them at all (well, til now), I don't expect responses and with the art, it's sometimes easier for me to find my own files there than on my HD! So they're handy.

Ah, that's a shame, but still understandable. How are your experinces with tumblir? Is it any good?

Tumblr is fine. Most people seem to use it more to reblog stuff from other people than anything else, or use the built in 'ask me anything' feature, which always seemed rather egotistical to me. It is what it is.

Hmm - seems to be the modus operandi of these Face Book times to simply retweet, reblog and relink other people's posts and compare a lot of fabricated factoids...

Tumblir has been advised to me as a fairly hip blogging platform for art discussions, but given your description, I would most certainly be rather irritated by such a posting culture. Perhaps adding Blogspot to my LJ would rather be far better...

Yah, the 'retweeting' thing is part of what makes me miss LJ being a more vital place. Even when people did quote someone else's post there was usually some added commentary or explanation as to why. LJ took -time- which is what I liked about it. Like. I'm still reading posts.

Blogspot seems to be the better of the group. Some people's blogs I read are quite lengthy and in-depth and is the most LJ-like. I just don't know how connected it is. Most, if not all the blogs I follow are artists sharing their work or discussing how they do what they do. I don't see as much personal writing there. Could just be the people I follow.

I feel as you do about LJ and the other social networks. FB and Twitter are impersonal, and hardly interactive. LJ is no longer nearly as interactive as it once was, and that trend is continuing as more good people get frustrated and leave. You'll be missed.

Thanks for saying so. I honestly don't feel like my LJ is on many people's radar at all. I try and comment on other people's to let them know I'm still here. That sort of seems to work.

Lj sends me a handy dandy notify whenever you update with a new post. This is a priceless feature! More sites should do something like this :)
