Use protection! A PSA about LJ's full-screen ads.

Since this seems to be affecting a lot of people, I thought I would throw in some of my knowledge and possibly help someone else, or at the very least keep it from happening to them.

As some of you have noticed, LJ's full-screen ads are fairly loaded with viruses.

While we're on the subject..Some of these are available for other browsers, but I know for a fact that for Chrome users, these don't always take effect BEFORE blocking the ads... which is really their purpose. In other words, ads sometimes get through on Chrome, before these plugins take effect and block them afterwards.

I think this is an awesome thing to bring to people's attention, by the way~

Yeah, Moros posted in Eway about how his computer was dying due to an LJ ad, and then Nica mentioned that her laptop gotten eaten by one as well. I see it getting to be a larger and larger problem, so... might as well share the wisdom, yeah?

Do you know anyone who's using LiveJournal with Opera? Opera doesn't have an adblock extension, but supposedly has ad-blocking scripts already programmed into the browser. I was wondering if anyone knew the safety of visiting LiveJournal with Opera.

I'm not sure. Devin uses Opera, but he's not on LJ often. He MAY know, though... at least enough to say whether or not he's getting said ads.

Remember those PLAY NOW MY LORD ads? I can't recall if they were fullscreen, but I always felt there was something screwy about them.

I believe those were for Evony. No, the ads I'm talking about are pretty hard to miss. They're the ones that make your entire browser screen black except for the video playing mid-screen, and they won't let you exit until you've watched the advertisement. :|
