Why do they have to do it to us? Because it wouldn't be the internet without the batshit crazies.
Shipper discussions, in general, are just a bad idea. No matter how civil they start out or promise to be, they almost always dissolve into agruments of "mine's better just because, so there!" I avoid them if I can.
I don't care about canon because it always screws me over. (I'm looking at you, Without a Trace!) Sure, it'd be cool to see my one of my ships go canon, but I know it happening is next to impossible (for most). Am I about to spam other people that happen to like where canon is going? NO. I keep my opinions to my journal.
None of my ships have ever gone canon, I don't think. Eric and Calleigh is the closest I've ever gotten. Admittedly the Miami fandom is very tame, but there's still so much bullshit you have to endure when your ship goes canon. Frankly I find fanon much more satisfying.
Frankly I find fanon much more satisfying. Agreed. I forget where I originally saw it, but it was one of the best reasonings against going canon: "If the writers get them together on the show, the can break them up just as easily." Dealing with a canonically break up, I think, would just take all the fun out of shipping.
Most of my fandoms aren't too bad, Miami being one of them. I've heard that the regular CSI used to get pretty crazy sometimes. (Haven't heard if it got worse/better/the same since Sara left the show.)

Just because you're shallow doesn't mean other people are too. If i want my ship couple to happen and I feel like TPTB are giving me tips that it might happen, then I really feel like I have the RIGHT to fight for them and to be affected by the fact that it didn't happen. Deal with it.
