Is aikido one of the martial arts forms that uses weaponry? I know a bit about judo, but how is it different? Also, I'm back now, so that whole "responsibility and OMG talking to each other" thing can happen.

Also, I have a whale-loving moment to share.

I believe so. I think the instructor said they use wooden weapons on the first Tuesday of every month, but I can only make it on Thursdays so I won't get to do any of that.

My impression is that judo is more about using an attacker's energy against them, while aikido focuses more on making an attack inneffective and stopping the attacker from harming you.

Judo is also very much a sport; apparently there are a number of techniques that have been disallowed in the 4 years since I last studied judo due to the Olympic Committee wanting judo to be more entertaining and less like wrestling, as there are too many events in the Olympics. I'm sure there are schools of judo that ignore these changes, but if they're members of the USJA and intend to participate in tournaments, the changes are neccessary. Aikido does not have competitions, and is more about personal growth than skill mastery.
