I'm theorizing that it's the O-ring inside the filter between the petcock and the tank, and the parts are on order already. If it's not that, the next likely culprit is the hose off the petcock, which was gonna get replaced anyway. Don't worry, I won't leave it that way. :)
Ahh, old Hondas. They're such excellent bikes. I have a 1986 Honda Nighthawk CB700s shaftie, which may classify as a tank after so many years and so many careless owners. Although curmudgeonly and in need of a post-winter tune up, it still goes vroom.
The Hawk is, I note, much sexier than the nighthawk. Perhaps that's its resemblance to more recent naked bikes.
I'm glad to hear that you're riding -- you always seemed a proper post-cyberpunk motorcycling chick.
*laugh* Thanks. If I'm going to live in a cyberpunk world with vat grown bladders and rare earth magnet implants, I should DEFINITELY have a motorcycle. :) Of course, I should also have a direct brain to internet connection, and look like Jessica Alba, but that may be a bit trickier.
I really like the styling of the Hawk, it seems a little ahead of its time, or at least, classic enough to not look dated after 20 years.
This one's been fairly well treated by the previous owners, aside from not living in a garage, I have maintenance records going back a fair number of years. The previous owner offered to fix the gas leak before selling, which had showed up between when I looked at it the first time and when I was ready to buy, but he was going to be busy and then out of town most of the summer, so I decided I'd rather work on it myself (getting to know the bike in the process, which is never a bad thing), and have the bike sometime before next year. :)
I didn't even realize you had a Hawk. I've heard nothing but raves about them, from starter bikes to experienced riders... The hope is that it's a bike I can grow into, with enough power to keep me happy as I get more experienced, but not so much as to get me in trouble. :)
*nod* The person who helped me look over the bike before buying it helped me check it to see if it had been drilled for safety wire. It looks like it hasn't been raced, and the previous owner didn't think so either (a coworker of T.'s), so it sounds like it's been treated fairly kindly. The friend also mentioned that they used to know of someone who made an expanded tank for the Hawks, they were going to check for me if the guy was still in business.
