The Holy Spirit

Alright, so I was reading one of my books for my education classes, and it began to (re)inspire a thought which I first came to realise in October after visiting a church in Steinbach. I think there's a danger that if a pastor invokes the Holy Spirit as the mandate or authority for his preaching or his comments or interpretation of the bible, then you could be on the way to authoritarianism - to that kind of christian 'leadership' you encounter in certain churches, where the congregation is expected to 'submit' and 'conform' to the leader's point of view and where to question or disagree is allegedly an 'attack on Godde' (since the leader claims to speak under the authority of Godde and is thus invested with that authority in the words he says ( ... )

Okay, so here is what I think about all of this. I do believe in the Holy Spirit, but also like Justin I believe that not all exegesis', or hermeneutical papers are necessarily "inspired" by the Holy Spirit. I think that there are times where you can feel led to go and talk to someone, or to spontaneously change a sermon, which I think is the work of the Holy Spirit. But like Justin said just because you prayed for God/ the Holy Spirit to "inspire" you, does not mean that it will happen. There will be times where you will write a sermon, or talk to a crowd and afterwards see how it impacted someone/s; and therefor see that it was the work of the Holy spirit ( ... )
