4/5I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the alt-Victorian/Steampunk world of Gail Carriger's Soulless. I awarded the book 4 stars, but that rating reflects a bit of confliction on my part. I loved most aspects of the ( Read more... )

Hello! I do have a LibraryThing account (username: Tantara), but I haven't used it. I dislike their model of "after shelving 200 books, you must pay to upgrade". I am, however, very active on Goodreads. I find the community to be diverse and the tools robust...and it's free. (The link to my username there is under the "Goodreads" link on the sidebar at left. www.goodreads.com/Tantara)

I'd like to be active on LibraryThing, but it seems so limited and commercial to me. I'll explore it more; perhaps I'm not giving it a chance. I'll just not be able to list many books, but perhaps the communities are worth it.

(My goodness, I do ramble.)

Alright, then. I've perked up my LibraryThing account a bit. I haven't added many books yet...just those I am currently reading and a couple of reviews. I've joined a few groups of interest that are at least modestly active. There are some things I've seen in my exploration that I like - great detail available for each book, a dedicated community - and others that do not impress - very limited group interface, (No folders or complex threading or hierarchy for organizing discussions...just a long list of threads in each group. Yuck! Double yuck!) non-user-friendly Spartan interface, much redundancy due to misspelled titles, authors listed as variously (for example) 'John Smith', 'Smith, John', 'John D. Smith', 'john smith', etc. - and each of those authors is the same fellow and may have 400 fans in one group, 50 in another, etc., so everything is messy and spread around and disorganized. For a site started by librarians, there is much disorganization and chaos, and that makes me crazy ( ... )

You can combine misspelled titles and redundant authors yourself. Every author page has an "Author Disambiguation" box where you find all the relevant information. It takes about 30 seconds to combine two authors so if you see a duplicate you can go ahead and combine them yourself ( ... )

In love the paradox occurs that two beings become one and yet remain two.
