I tried Sudoku for the first time today.

I can see why everyone likes it so much. It has that "I don't want to quit until I'm done" quality to it. Still, it's not really difficult, or at least the puzzle I did wasn't. What's the big deal? I wrote a suduko solver in 2 hours, and I'm no genius. My 2 page program can brute-force it, typically in .5 seconds. Suduko is computer generated and computer-solvable. I see no reason to put humans in the loop.
