Just to prove that I'm not just reading everyone's blogs, I am actually going to post something meaningful to mine!
*insert sounds of shocked gasps*
I know, I know. A real, honest to goodness post from me!
Yesterday, A and I went out for a hike on Lower Table Rock to see what it was like and to explore a little of the area in which we live. A couple of weeks ago, we hiked Upper Table Rock [and when I'm more awake later, I'll post about that] and had a good time and wanted to check out the other one.
We started out full of energy and enthusiasm. And we tried not to let the three mile round trip sign on the map phase us any. But, it wasn't until we hit the path and saw the steepness of it that we were a little daunted by the trek that we planned. But, being that we were already there and had planned the time for our adventure, we trekked onward.
There are signs in the area warning of bears, cougars, and rattlesnakes, OH MY! But the only wildlife that we actually saw were birds, lizards, and humans. Most of the lizards we heard on the way up, and only caught a glace of a little bitty baby one as it zoomed off the path. It was only as big as my thumb and fast!
There were several points where we had to stop and catch our breath and we were thankful that the smoke from the Northern California fires had decided to be elsewhere. At one point, A asked if I was ok to go on and I was all: "I'll survive. I'm too stubborn to quit now!" His response? "I know you're stubborn, but being well and not killing yourself is pretty important. I don't want you to hurt yourself." He's such a sweetie.
When we reached the top, it was a glorious view of rocks and dead grasses, but the surrounding countryside was gorgeous. We trekked along to find the edge of the Rock and to take pictures. I can't wait to see how the panoramic ones that he took turn out, and when I get them, I'll add to the gallery.
I realize now, that we've got to do the hike again in spring when all the vegetation is coming to life and there are wildflowers galore.
The only bad thing about the day was the fact that on the way down, I slipped and couldn't catch myself. Now my right knee looks like I did when I was a kid. All scratched up and needing bandaids. *sigh* Just adds to the character of my legs and the burn that's almost healed on my left one. I tell ya, it's a good thing I like to wear longer flow-y skirts to work lately!
So, without further ado, you can find some of the
pictures here of our adventure. Enjoy!
Oh, and the next hike we're going to do? The Rogue River Gorge. It's a long hike, however there is one advantage. It's level!
