Link. That article there is the first I've heard of Facebook buying the company making the
Oculus Rift. My reaction to the news is: What. o_O
This news bugs me mainly because... well... I don't get it. It makes no sense to me at all. What the hell does Facebook have to do with virtual reality technology? How are those two things related in any way? Yeah, yeah, I know that Facebook has games on it and all that, but I don't see how the Oculus Rift will improve the experience of crap like Farmville or Candy Crush all that much. ¬_¬
No, what I see here is simply yet another company trying to get their greedy, piggy little fingers into yet another pie that they had absolutely no hand in helping to bake, and they will more likely than not end up ruining said pie in the process. EA does it. Microsoft does it. A bunch of companies do it. But in this case, for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, it irks me more than usual and way more than it probably should especially since I wasn't even all that interested in the Oculus Rift to begin with. Well, I have to admit that I did have a vague bit of interest in the device prior to this, but now... no, not so much anymore.
