King's Quest 2015

Remember when Activision decided to bring back Sierra and make a new King's Quest game?

Yeah...

I'm seriously not sure whether to be hyped or horrified by this. On the one hand... honestly, it doesn't look all that bad. It looks like it could be fairly fun to play, maybe. On the other hand... while I certainly do not want more Mask of Eternity-style blood splatters and grimdark shit in my King's Quest, when I do think of the King's Quest series, I don't think Disney-fied cutesiness. Well, okay, they went in that direction, I guess, with King's Quest VII, but for me, the high points of King's Quest will always be KQV and KQVI (KQV being the first one I ever played to completion, and KQVI being, in my opinion, the best in the series, period) which were at least slightly more serious, though even they admittedly had bits of cutesy whimsical stuff as well. Eh... that's why I'm not completely dismissing this new game out of hand, I guess.

Anyway, I'm still taking a "wait and see" stance on this new thing they're calling King's Quest. And, also, I'll definitely be waiting until there is an at least 50% off sale, and more likely 75% off, because right now they're asking for $39.99 to pre-order it on Steam (the notification for which is how I was even reminded of its existence, since I don't follow regular video game news anymore). This is about twice what Telltale asks for their similar episodic games, and I typically don't even buy those at their full launch prices. As far as its episodic nature is concerned... hell, I haven't even played any of The Silver Lining as of yet, because they still, to this day, have not finished that, what with only four of the five episodes being made so far (though they are ostensibly still working on episode 5), and I refuse to play an unfinished game. So yeah, I'll definitely be waiting for this new thing to be finished before I even think about buying it, regardless of any pricing concerns.

pc, games (2015), steam, games with potential
