"Electronic Arts hopes to hit $1 billion in DLC revenues this year"

*weary, defeated sigh*

Aside from that and perhaps a bit of *double facepalm* and maybe some *headdesk* thrown in for good measure, I don't think that this needs any more comment from me.

(EDIT) I will additionally comment that the mindless EA fanboys and/or reputation managment drones are out in full force in the comments under this one. ( Read more... )

ea sucks, game industry stuff, games, dlc

I have to agree with you about the reputation management drones.

The only thankful thing is that at lesat most of those comments trying to defend the crap is instantly responded with a few comments that poke whatever fucked up argument they were attempting to make full of holes. I actually find myself hoping that the makers of those retarded comments really are just employees of the company being paid to make them rather than there actually being real people utterly stupid enough to think that way.

I do like the new suggested acronym for DLC though, given that games themselves are becoming more and more downloadable content in the first place.

I think my favorite argument that I've seen so far is the one about how companies these days have to sell the DLC because they budgeted for the DLC and because they budgeted for the DLC they have to sell the DLC or else they won't meet the budget for the DLC that they budgeted for so they have to sell that DLC so stop complaining about the DLC that without which the games wouldn't meet their budget for that DLC and just buy the DLC they budgeted for that they're selling because they budgeted for it and if you don't buy the DLC they're selling and which they budgeted for they'll go out of business and you don't want them to go out of business because they didn't meet the budget since they didn't sell the DLC that they budgeted for, right? You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

It's not like the video game industry survived just fine and even thrived for many years before DLC ever came around.

Yeah, the one thing I noticed as I was skimming down the comments is that it was the same two of three guys who were chiming in on every single comment thread with pro-EA propaganda, which is why I think that they are probably rep management drones, rather than honest-to-god deluded fanboys.

Actually, one of my favorite comments was the one that accused everyone who was dogpiling on EA of being shills for Valve and Steam. Aside from that comment, I don't recall anyone else even mentioning Valve or Steam at all.
