The anime's later story and conclusion by Bones is different from the manga due to a request by Arakawa.[1] During the making of the anime, Arakawa was present in meetings to give the staff insight into the world of Fullmetal Alchemist, though she did not actively take part in any writing for the TV series.
Both FMA anime and FMA:Brotherhood are enjoyable. FMA: Brotherhood tries to go quickly through the episodes that are similar to FMA anime. What I noticed in the similar episodes was that FMA: Brotherhood tried to bring out aspects of the plot that weren't as developed in the FMA anime ones.
I have both FMA and FMA:Brotherhood as well as the manga itself. I like them both. I do have to recommend that you don't deny yourself the experience of watching FMA:Brotherhood because it does actually cover the entire manga. Arakawa is brilliant, and the manga is one hell of a good story.
