Would I WANT to be your friend?!

Jan 10, 2010 11:01

I rarely check  Facebook, but I just got a message from a Rizan Damha that reads:

"just asking r u from Malaysia, coz u look like my fren (sic)"

Don't know and have never heard of this Rizan - but I won't be friending him/her anytime soon considering that the user photo is a big, shiny swastika.

OMG, I just typed in that name. I just wanted to see if it was the Tibetan symbol. Nope. Nazi scum.

At Albany, we found out that Shauna friends *everyone* who sends her a friend request, even if she hasn't heard of them. There were people making wall posts to her in Hindi, or one of the other languages from the India area! She has something like 800-900 friends now...

So do I. Only people I've turned down are KM Sr & some sleazy guy I met at my high school reunion. Otherwise I see no harm & they might post interesting pictures. Or they might be some foreign Scrabble player that I'll meet eventually. However, the swastika would be a deal breaker.

swastika, in the context of indian and malaysian symbolism is a _positive_ thing. i studied sanskrit for many years. actually, every word i know beginning with swa... has positive connotation in sanskrit. swami [holy man], swaroop [divine form] etc.

Like Quinquennia, I googled this name & the swastika is exactly the Nazi flag, so I doubt it's meant as the Sanskrit symbol.

Kangarau - if you don't want your public blog entry popping up when Rizan's name is googled, you might want to alter the spelling.
