BACK DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND

Or you know, due to the demand of red_hayate, who will not be denied.

I suppose this is at just the right time as well, as I can feel the quicksands of fandom trying to draw me back in once more (nifty metaphor y/y?), as I have just watched the first episode of the brand new Doctor Who and I absolutely loved it. Completely. Love. <3 <3.

I'm a new generation 'Whovian' who's first Doctor was the magnificent Christopher Eccelston, and haven't really been exposed to the doctors of yore, but I've followed it closely since the first of the new series. However, since Rose got sucked in a Henry Hoover type fashion in to her alternate dimension, I became somewhat disillusioned with 'New Who', aside from the odd fantastic story, such as the Weeping Angels episode and pretty much anything starring John Simm as the Master, yet I watched them all none the less. I can't quite put my finger on what it was, aside from the fact that they didn't seem to excite me very much. THAT IS UNTIL TONIGHT! :D

Big thumbs up. Like woah. Maybe its due to the fact that Russel T. Davies has handed the crown over to Stephen Moffat, possibly my favourite Who writer that has done it (Author of such episodes as The Empty Child - still one of my all time favourites, and The Girl in the Fireplace, possibly the most aesthetically pleasing episodes. :P). That isn't to say I didn't like RTD, he was a phenominally clever writer, and of course the great architect of the Gay Agenda. But I think he had given all he could to Doctor Who and then a bit more. The show needed new blood, and new blood it certainly has! :D What struck me in the opening of the episode was (and bear with me here as I am no TV/Film expert) the scenery. It seemed a lot more cinematic and picturesque. However in fairness, this was set in a nice little country village, and previous settings of New Who have been mainly set in London and its suburbs, and lets face it, you can't polish a turd (although you can roll it in glitter ;D). I do like that the new companion doesn't have a London accent and lives in the capital city, it seems the writers of the show are finally branching out a bit - how far I'm not sure as I'm not aware of how far south Amelia Pond's (I agree with eleven, excellent name) village actually is. Another thing I particularly like about the new series is the TARDIS's new interior! I much prefer it to the old one, which seemed to look like they tried too hard to make it look alien and it just ended up looking a bit too plastic. The control panel is nice and quirky (and I think quirky is an excellent word to describe the feel of the new series), especially the random typewriter they threw in there! They must have brought out the big guns in the designing process this time round. And yes, by big guns I do mean Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen. I digress. The man himself, Matt Smith, I was particularly impressed with. I went into the episode with an open mind and I now have a lot of hope for the new Doctor! And his side-kick! I really liked Karen Gillan, and am very interested to see where they take the characters! PLUS HOW AWESOME IS ELEVEN'S OUTFIT. N'AWWW. IT'S THE ACTUAL CUTEST THING. Also I'm getting used to his face now. It seems less strange than before. I find it less unsettling.

So all is good! I can't wait till next week, and this journal has finally seen some life again. It really is hard to get out of my lurking habit. I'm old and set in my ways.

LOVE.
