The Mechanics of Combat SP (Part II)

Overview

Continuing where we left off in Part I, I want to focus on 3 aspects of combat SP in this post...

(1) The EXP/SP gain at levels below 24, which is enhanced by an additional "low level" modifier.
      (2) Another look at Base SP, particularly targeting popular SP sites and leveling Leves.
      (3) Another quick look at the Party SP  ( Read more... )

How does the +5/-10 system work? SE made it sound like each persons SP was calculated on a individual basis. Is this the case? Should everyone be within -10 of the highest person for the best party modifier?

It's an individual calculation, which is different than XI, where it was based on the highest in party. Say you have 3 people in party ranks 50, 20, and 26...

You calculate how much 'party bonus' each gets separately, so the level 50 only has 1 player in -10/+5 range (himself), the rank 20 only has 1 (himself again), and the rank 26 has 2 in range (self, 20).

So from a selfish perspective, you just want to personally be within -10/+5 of everyone in your party. It doesn't matter if everyone else is. But if you want everyone to get the best benefit, then yes, they all should be -10/+5.

Hope this makes sense.

Does having people outside the range hurt sp for everyone? Would that change the party modifier? With my lack of understanding I have been really strict when it comes to the range a party has. I am just wondering what would be the best policy for optimal sp for a 8 person party.

Adding someone outside range is always going to hurt your SP.

Would you suggest if your group of say 3/4 are in their low 20's but still have access to the level 40 leves having one person 50 take turns powerleveling on the 40's ?

I think you'd do better just doing the leve abandonment. The thing about having a higher level PL you is you get credit for dLVL=10 and nothing past that. Reaching that on leve mobs is fairly easy since they have toned down difficulty. So basically I think you're better off doing it normally.

Thanks for the quick feedback, and I think your right, it only took a few days to get up to the 30's and start doing dunesfolk without a PL. One last thing and maybe I might have read over it but do you have any numbers for a party of 4 with 4 links (cap) vs a party of 8 with 4 links. My group did this and tried 5 links without any gain in SP , all within +/- 5. So we just started doing all the leves 2x.

I know you understand the SP numbers pretty well so I wanted to ask you a question. I've been told that you start losing sp per mob if you have a party over 8. We've been running the different leve paths to level up and occasionally we'll have around 10 people. My linkshell thinks it's best to split up into two groups of 5 to get the max links in each group. I feel it would be better to stay in one group and do each leve twice. Could you run the numbers and see which way would be best? If it's better to stay in one group would you be able to figure out where the cutoff is to where it would be beneficial to split up.

Also you might want to look into when there are 5-9 people in a party and the possibility of running each leve 2x without the maximum number of links. For example is there more SP to gain by running it 2x with 3 links than 1 time with 4 links.

Thanks

The Party SP table here is still accurate as far as I know. So if we take a look, you get 65% solo SP for 8 players (assuming all in lvl range), 80% for 5, and 52% solo SP for 10 players. Let's take a look at your 2 choices ( ... )

Thanks for the quick response. Is there a point where running leves twice would produce more exp?

Not in any reasonable situation I can think of. But this is total SP. If we are talking SP per hour, then I can easily see 2 groups of 4 beating a group of 8 since you get more SP a kill and do half the runs. It all comes down to what your group is looking for.
