I'm actually surprised Kubo hadn't brought a scene like this within the manga--and then I felt a bit betrayed when he was portrayed as an "anti hero" in later chapters. My reaction: "Huh? Hey! Kubo, you made us think he was evil! Why is he helping!?"
Yeah, I always thought that too. Ichigo seems to be made of pure goodness and the fact that something as disturbing and dark could be a part of him was unsettling to him, I think. I don't think that most people understood that part: he's commited himself to protecting others, doing right, and no one else (manga-wise) understood that. No one could reach out. They all thought it was because of other reason, but the moment Rukia mentioned it to him, it was like bam; she gets him.
Kubo really likes to use symbolism with relationships, I believe, and I appreciate how he presents things. The Hollow and Ichigo is a classic Evil vs. Good, but with a deeper look.

I have the feeling once ichigo gets his powers back there would be consequences. Terrible consequences implying his precious nakama and his hollow *evil grin*
keep going!

I haven't written a dark fic in awhile, so this is me stretching out all the kinks. XD I'll probably write a second installment for this fic, concerning Rukia or someone else and poor Ichigo will have to go through a bunch more pain.
That's interesting! I never thought about the repercussions of Ichigo getting his powers back. I can't wait to see what happens~
