Alright guess I feel like starting internet fights today!!

So, it was just announced today (not even a few hours ago, I'd assume by the amount the story is exploding on Twitter) that Viz just had a MASSIVE layoff and restructuring. 40% of their staff (something like 60 people?), gone. I think fansubbers and scanslations along with the faltering economy has a big part of Viz' restructuring but they do have some blame themselves. Back when I used to collect their anime, they weren't exactly the best value on the block ( ... )

I don't really have much to contribute that hasn't already been said, but you're reminding me of AnimeNEXT last year, when I recognized these two girls were doing some 20th Century Boys cosplay and started talking with them about how I just started reading the series and they were like "YOU'RE BUYING THE VIZ VOLUMES? JUST READ THE SCANLATIONS THE WHOLE THING'S ONLINE AND IT'S FREE"

Man, if only they'd grown up in the days where Viz manga was like 15 bucks a volume, and any manga published by Dark Horse was between 18 and 25 dollars. I'm probably just sounding like an old fogey but with the internet these days, fans just seem really impatient and have this awfully inflated sense of entitlement with EVERYTHING and it's depressing;

I think I've read a few scans of things that weren't released and were in Japanese, like Pandora Hearts. Now that's out here, I should probably go pick that up. But overall, I tend to buy things.

I want to someday be an author and it'd be pretty shitty of me to steal things from other creators and then go apeshit if someone didn't want to pay to read my story.
