[Week 16, Day 5 | video]

[At first, all the video feed captures is darkness and the sound of heavy, shaky breathing. It's the type of breathing that happens when a very broken person on the verge of a breakdown and tries to calm their nerves on their own ( Read more... )

[VIDEO] WELL HELLO THERE ad_salvatio December 27 2010, 00:48:18 UTC
[ This guy looks like he can use a little help. Peter hasn't seen him before so he can only assume he's just arrived. But unlike the others who arrive and are confused and scared, there's something a little broken about this man's eyes. A sort of desperation that Peter feels but doesn't quite understand. Either way, he's sure that this man could probably use a little help. ]

Hey. Are you okay?

[ Help is an understatement. Isaac is completely broken, almost to the point where he needs to be rewired and reset completely. He's been shattered too many times, and those pieces no longer fit back together the way they used to.

He startles at the sound of the strangely familiar voice, but his gaze almost immediately goes cold when he sees just who that voice belongs to. There's a brief moment where he considered tossing this strange device into grass, but he refrains. ]

Peter...?

[ Peter, he says, and almost immediately, Peter reacts, fingers tightening around the Hitomi, eyes wide on a man whose face he doesn't recognize. And for a moment he thinks that maybe this man is talking to some other Peter and not him, but the man is clearly speaking to him and him alone on this device, which means that he should know this person or at least this person knows him. It's a little like deja vu, with that woman in the cold barren stretch of empty room, gripping his arms with recognition in her eyes and his name on her mouth like it somehow belonged to her.

The pause and study lasts only a moment. ]

Do I know you?

[ Isaac tilts his head slightly, his gaze growing colder by the second. The last thing he expected was not being recognized, especially given the none too cheerful circumstances of his previous meeting with Peter. He falls silent, vaguely wondering if Peter is simply blocking that from his mind. It's what he wishes he could do, after all. It's just part of the reason he surrendered so easily to Sylar. To Isaac, dying meant no more guilt. It meant forgetting and being at peace.

But this isn't peace.]

It hasn't been that long, Peter. I'd love to forget too, but it's not that easy.

[ It's not the forgetting that's hard for Peter -- it's the remembering that's more difficult. And he'd tried so many times -- looked within himself, attempting to make some sense of what it was that was happening to him and who he was. Adrift on the sea for what could have been years, it hadn't occurred to him to ask why -- there was no other world outside of the floating darkness, the memory of a dark face and a flash of the only light he had ever known closing in the distance and the coldness of metal and sharp angles against his back. It was only after, after he discovered he had a voice and how to use it, that this voice could form words and that these words had meaning, and the meaning shaped itself into questions that had no answers every time he looked inside for the why, that he actually realized he had lost anything at all ( ... )

[VIDEO] I DON'T WANNA, THOUGH. YOU DO IT. future_games December 27 2010, 01:34:27 UTC
[ Isaac stopped questioning things a long time ago. For a man who can paint the future, there isn't much left that's worth questioning. Everything is insanity, everything is chaos, but he still wants desperately to know where he is and why he's there and why Peter refuses to remember him.

It makes him angry, but he's too exhausted to lash out at Peter. Still, hiding emotions has never been Isaac's forte, and it's clear that this is bothering him more than he'll admit. He quickly decides to play along and leave Simone out of the equation for the time being, his expression softening as he struggles to tell the basic story. ]

New York. I'm--I was a painter there. I painted the future. I painted you flying...and an explosion. And a cheerleader. Save the cheerleader, save the world. Don't you remember, Peter?

Save the cheerleader, save the world...

[ Peter turns the phrase around in his mouth, in his head, tries it on for size -- and it seems familiar, seems like he's said it before, some kind of muscle memory of the tongue and mind. But memory isn't so easy to recall when it is lost, somewhere in the great beyond, in the nothing of the past that stretches on forever just outside of Peter's fingers every time he reaches for it. Save the cheerleader, save the world -- (a flicker: somewhere moving, people jostling, a man with a dark face frozen in the distance and dark eyes imploring at him, some kind of funny accent -- "Save the cheerleader, save the world") -- the weight of something like a million lives upon him, crushing in a sudden instance -- (she was blonde, clear eyes that looked up at him with something in them he can't quite recognize) -- a step back, and then another, his eyes upon this man who reminds him of paint and canvases, of color. Splashes of red. Red. Everywhere. Dripping off the corners and onto his shoes in wet ( ... )

[ Isaac watches the little screen as Peter tries to figure things out, a bundle of emotions his own right. Since their first meeting, Isaac has always viewed Peter with the bitter assumption that he is truly invincible. Falls from ten-story buildings, serial killers, explosions...he's survived everything, absolutely everything, and all Isaac can do is sit back and watch things happen. It's always been admiration and intense jealousy all at once for Isaac when it comes Peter.

He blinks when he hears his name, giving a slight nod.]

Yeah.

[It's all he can manage. He shakes his head, almost ashamed to see the man who was so set on saving anyone and anything so empty and lost. When he speaks, that softness remains as he swallows back as much of his hostility as he can manage. Now he's more interested in the story behind Peter's memory loss than he is in what's going on with himself.]

What happened to you, Peter?

[ What happened is a loaded question, a gun Peter's not sure he's ready to hold even though it was in his hand. And he'd pulled some kind of a trigger, done something to have made things so wrong when he was just trying to uncover the answer to that very question. Ninety-three percent of the world's population dead, and somehow, somehow Peter has something to do with it, some kind of responsibility over it. That woman had said as much -- told him he had to be the one to stop it -- thousands of bodies stacked in cold warehouses, wrapped in plastic without proper burial. And would that they be buried, there wouldn't be enough ground to put them in. Just lives blinking out faster than you can count when the air is diseased and Peter seems to be one of the only people on earth who can survive breathing in it ( ... )

[VIDEO] ...DID WE JUST SUMMON CAPTAIN PLANET? future_games December 27 2010, 02:06:03 UTC
[Through all the heroin-fueled visions of cheerleaders, exploding men, and his own death, Isaac can't remember a great deal of what he painted in the last few months of his life. There were stacks upon stacks of canvases, that much he knows, but to pick them out and match them to situations is almost impossible when they aren't there in front of him.

He listens closely, trying to bring forward something that matches Peter's memories of the shipping container at all, but no memory of his own is sparked. If there's anything, it's lost, buried too deep underneath the more twisted, disturbing images.]

Okay, look--

[ He pauses and glances to the side, running a shaking hand through his tangled mess of hair. This isn't the Peter he remembers, and he's beginning to find it difficult to focus only on the way the butted heads back in New York. It's just...scary to see him this way. Peter has helped him more times than he cares to admit, bringing him back from an overdose and rekindling his confidence in his ability when drugs and money ( ... )

[ Before the container and the flash of images that just spilled through his mind, there was nothing but an empty stretch of blankness, a kind of lack that Peter kept waiting to be filled in. But now, still mentally staggering with the feeling of blood and pain and desperation and need and confusion and fear -- so much of it, it almost overwhelms -- he isn't sure he's ready to fill it in, doesn't know if he even can, even though he knows that he should because he can't keep running away from himself. Maybe this is why he keeps traveling through time and different worlds -- a part of him doesn't want him to know, doesn't want him to ever understand what it was that had put him in that dark prison in the first place ( ... )

[Isaac lapses back into silence for a moment, contemplating Peter's words. Admittedly, if he were in the other man's shoes, he wouldn't want to know either. But Isaac and Peter are entirely different entities. The painter has been through a lot, but so much of his suffering stems from his own decisions. He's mentally weaker and lacks confidence. Peter, on the other hand, has been through so more. He hasn't ask for an ounce of it, but he can handle it. He has handled it ( ... )

[ Tell me what you saw, he says, and Peter glimpses, sees these fragments he holds but can't quite understand. Shining and glimmering with all the secrets of a past drenched in too much blood. He remembers the red, all over his shoes and splattered across the floor of his mind, across canvases and dripping off the ends of paintbrushes. Across the chest of a beautiful woman with bright green eyes and brown skin. He sees again red, the color of rain performing staccato against an umbrella; or maybe it was the umbrella that was red and the rain was simply just that: rain, clear and cold and running through the busy streets of a New York not yet destroyed, a New York still alive and flourishing and Peter stands in the middle of it all, the rain and the red and clear green eyes ( ... )

[ Peter listens. Watches Isaac shape the sounds and syllables that form words which should connect to something, should hook and reel in all that Peter had been waiting for: the past, adrift in an ocean, lost perhaps, when he had been put into that dark prison that shipped over it. Maybe it had drowned, floated down to a bottom too dark and too cold, too deep for retrieval. No amount of fishing could ever hope to reach it, no amount of wishing will either, it seems. He hadn't even realized until it sinks within him, a slow descent, that a kind of hope had risen at the thought that maybe, just maybe, he might be able to access the truth about himself. And even if it was terrifying, even if he wasn't ready, still wanted to run from it -- or at least a part of him -- he had hoped, had wanted, to be able to fill in the parts of him, which really was all of him, that was put far beyond him. Out there, somewhere ( ... )

[ Isaac watches Peter's reactions in the screen, brow furrowed in concern. He truthfully doesn't want to load too much onto him at one time, because he's experienced something similar. The images he painted came at him so quickly, none of them pleasant, and didn't seem to stop until he was dead on the floor of his loft. But Peter has to know.

He waits for Peter's breathing to even out again, telling himself to keep his mouth shut about anything else for a little while.. But Peter's question? Isaac has to think about it. It shouldn't take him so long to answer something so simple, but it's difficult for him, sometimes, to remember such common knowledge. Heroin is one hell of a drug, but it's not only that. There had been so much hanging in the balance. Simple things, like dates and times didn't seem important. All that mattered was the city and doing anything he possibly could to save it. But he recalls, after a few beats.]

2006. [He pauses briefly again, wondering just how long he's supposedly been "dead".] What about you?
