[The Hitomi turns on as it tumbles onto the grass, catching only a glimpse through the tall green blades of Elfangor where he lays, flat on his back, beneath the great Himorogi tree. Staring skyward, and yet not really looking at anything. Lost in thought. Speaking aloud, quietly, but not to himself. To someone who may not even be listening, for

I'm coming to meet you.
[He's so relieved, he's almost shaking, and he breaks into a jog just to burn off the energy, knowing it won't make him get to Himorogi faster.]

And when he finally does see Matt approaching, he's off like a shot, hardly aware if he's breathing at all until he's there, gripping him close, face buried against his neck, breathing in Matt's scent. Home, yes, now I'm home.]
Mail. [It comes out quiet, choked by tears that threaten to spill.] I'm so sorry, I wanted to tell you I would be back, didn't think it would take so long--

[Matt hadn't admitted that before, not even to himself, he was trying so hard to keep from feeling anything, but it spills out now. He clings for a moment, then pulls back just enough to frame Elfangor's face with his hands. It's okay now. It's really okay.]
Wait, you knew you'd be back?
[It takes a second for the pieces to click into place.]
Oh. Him. Don't be sorry, love. I know he dicks around with people.

He does indeed dick around with people, but he is more forthcoming with promises than certain others. I-- I know that it is not what you asked of the gods here, but... He did promise me something.
[He takes Matt's hands in his own, clasps them tight.]
I do not know what to believe lies beyond death, in worlds unlike this one. But he has given me his word, that whatever there is to face, that we will face it together.

[Matt disentangles one of his hands to thumb away the tears before they can fall, even as he catches his breath at hearing Elfangor's news.
Whatever comes next, we'll be together? It's more than he hoped for, so much more. But...]
Why? Why would he do that for us?
It's. In his power. Right? He wasn't trying to get something from you?
[Almost afraid to believe, but he spent his life that way, didn't he? In spite of that, he still never felt, not even in this past day, that believing wasn't worth it. Believing in them was always worth it, no matter what.]

He said that this world is beyond his permitted reach. But if we should find ourselves outside of this place... then, yes, it would be within his power.
[And now, Elfangor can't help the small, muted laugh that bubbles out of him.] He framed it in such a strange way, that it was an offer for a willingness to do something compelled of me. I... think it may have been an apology for manipulating me in the past. But I suspect Ellimists do not simply do apologies.
[He slants a grin, catching Matt's hand in his again. There's no need to brush away the tears; they come from joyous relief, not sadness.
That is when a nervous energy overtakes him. Now? Now feels like the right time. He knows he is no good at planning anything out too far in advance, but he had actually been putting a great deal of thought into this, how best to go about ( ... )

[Tobias won't like it, but Matt's relieved. They talked about that the first time they spoke, he remembers, and he's never going to be an Ellimist fanboy or anything, but he can see that was a damn good reason for pulling Elfangor away.
The promise the god-or-whatever gave them helps, too.
Elfangor's grin is infectious, and Matt smiles back, even though he's confused, and threads their fingers together.]
Something to show me? But you just got back.
[It occurs to him that it might have something to do with the guitar he's not supposed to know about, but why now?]
I mean, obviously, of course I'll come with.
