[The thing is, Elfangor loves the beach--it reminds him of home. Not his first home, but the home he made on Earth. He misses the California sunshine, the sand, playing in the ocean, the sights and smells (and food) of summer, of people gathered for a good time.
He's currently lounging about on the beach, sun-drying after having already gone swimming. He didn't swim for long, as the water's not as warm as he would have liked, what with it only being spring.
But still. It's nice to just relax, to take in the sun and not have to worry about a thing for once.]
[He smiles.] You can. Now... let yourself float for a moment, to get a feel for what it is like to not have your feet firmly planted on the ground. [Elfangor demonstrates, still keeping a hold on Matt's hand.] Once you've got that, you can kick to determine your direction of movement.
[He glances back toward where he saw the dolphins, and yes, they are still there, frolicking about in the waves.]
When we get closer, I will need to demorph if I'm to acquire one of them. [He frowns slightly at the thought. Oh, he can certainly swim in Andalite form, but it's not exactly... enjoyable. Not like swimming as a human. But he is willing to put up with it briefly it it means being able to acquire such an interesting creature.]
[To his considerable relief, Matt finds that he does float, his legs drifting up through the water once he gets up the nerve to lean forward and let his feet leave the sand, and he might clutch Elfangor's hand more tightly for a moment, but when he looks over at him, he's grinning. It's not hard to kick a little, and push at the water with his free hand to stay afloat.]
That's gonna be... interesting. Andalites can swim, right?
Yes, but I would much rather swim as human than Andalite. They are considerably different experiences.
[He starts pulling Matt in the direction of the dolphins, an irrepressible grin taking over his face once more.] As I'm sure that swimming as a dolphin will be an entirely different experience as well.
[Matt reluctantly extricates his hand, still vaguely worried that this whole swimming thing might turn on him and stop working, and sort of dogpaddles, with a lot of splashing, in the direction of the sleek grey bodies, jealous of the dolphins' ease in the water.]
Heh, does seem like a case-- [He's a little out of breath already.] --where extra limbs, not so good.
[Elfangor keeps a careful eye on Matt at the splashing, but figures he is all right as they continue to make their way through the water toward the dolphins, which seem to be curious at their approach and swim right up to them. Even though he knows he should demorph now, he can't help but laugh in glee at how much fun these creatures appear to be having.
But then he does demorph, and fortunately it does not seem to bother the dolphins in the slightest. If anything, they seem amused by the presence of a suddenly very out-of-place Andalite, wet fur and all. He reaches out to touch one, the gray skin feeling almost rubbery under his hand, and concentrates, acquiring its DNA.]
[After a brief moment of almost-panic, Matt discovers he can tread water decently well. Hell, he figures, either your head's above water or it isn't; style doesn't count that much. Not that he's in any position to judge, but he's forced to admit, at least to himself, that the ocean might be the one place where an Andalite can sort of fail at looking graceful.
The dolphins are almost tame, or maybe they're just curious, and one noses right at his hand when he reaches out to touch it, like a weird, slippery, affectionate cat or something. After he acquires it, it seems to grin at him even more, like it's saying "thanks for the trip."]
< They do seem to be a friendly bunch. > [There's a smile in the silent words.] < Let's see how well they take to duplicates of themselves. >
[And then he's morphing, thoroughly relieved when his lower body gives way to a strong tail meant for propelling oneself through water. There's a moment of panic when he isn't sure how to breathe, but thankfully the body knows, and he bobs along the surface, giving a few excited clicks.]
< Oh! This is-- > [He laughs and dives under the waves, racing back up to break through the surface, and he leaps through the air, diving right back in, still laughing all the while.] < Amazing! >
[Matt's not nervous about this morph, but that would totally remove any doubts he had, if he had them. He still has to concentrate to change, and his skin goes grey first, in that weird way of morphing not following any logical rules. He's pretty glad he can't see himself when he feels his nose shoot out way too long, but in the next second, his mind shifts, and he laughs silently.
This is so much better than being a tiny human flailing around in a big ocean. This is awesome, feeling totally at home in the water, and more than that, it's like it's a playground created just for them. Matt laughs again, sheer happiness spilling over.]
< Race you! >
[And he's off, not waiting, letting the dolphin mind guide him through the waves.]
